If you are worried that your tag wont work just use a normal lane (if there isn't a massive queue!). If it doesn't go beep just take a ticket.

Or go to a manned booth and hand over your Tag and they will scan the barcode on it.

Can anyone tell me if you can buy a Tag when you have arrived in France.? Are there any offices that you can go to to buy one?

My OH, much against my advice, sent off for a SanefUK tag when he got an offer from Eurotunnel, that was about 3 weeks ago and we go on holiday next week. Despite an email to them asking where the tag has got to we still haven't received it!

He reckons he will cancel the direct debit before we go because its pretty useless if it arrives once we've left.

I wondered if we could buy a French tag while we were there as we were hoping to use a lot of autoroute this year because we will be time constrained and the tag seemed like a good idea.

Opinions welcome.

I can only speak for APRR who have offices at some of the Southern autoroute peages.

Last year we got a Tag from the Chalon-Sur-Saone exit peage.

No dramas, they just took my CC details, and I signed a form, I was in and out of the office within 10 minutes with a shiny new Tag, mostly due to their English being far better than my almost none existant command of the French language.

Have a look on the APRR website, the offices will be shown on there all will be in Southern France.

Having said that it would probably be better to try and get hold of a BiP & Go (Sanef France) Tag, they also have offices mostly along some of the autoroutes but only in Northern France, I would imagine they would do the same as APRR did for me.

You could try and phone Bip&Go (Sanef France) before you go, but I would imagine they would just put you through to Saneftolling UK.

Thank you Francais. I will investigate each website. Feeling really frustrated with the UK lot at present. Will more than likely go through Chalon-Sur-Saone, might try there. We travel the length and breadth of France so I don't imagine its a problem where we get a tag, except I suppose if we had a problem with it early in a holiday.

Sanef France (Bip & Go) only accept new customers if they have a French bank account and pay by direct debit through it. The same applies for the vast majority of French motorway operators.

The only two exceptions I'm aware of that will accept payment by credit card are APRR and ATMB

Map of APRR Offices
where the tag can be purchased if you are passing that way.

ATMB has two offices at the peage de Nangy and the peage de Cluses in the Alps

Hope that helps

Ken

Thank you both for that information. I had overlooked the problem of a bank account. Checked out the map of offices and we might pass that way so possible. My French is limited, could be a stumbling block!

Why not just phone Sanef UK in Harrogate?

01423 299017 according to Google

I'm not a customer of theirs but there are just as many positive comments about them on this forum as negative ones

That was an excellent suggestion Ken. Phoned this afternoon, so much better than sending an email, and she said that she would send another one out to us first class. So fingers crossed we will get it by next Tuesday.

That's great. Once you get used to it you'll find it's one of the best French holiday investments you'll ever make.

We wouldn't be without ours

Just as the young lady in Harrogate promised the tag arrived 10 mins ago, first class post. Don't know what happened to the other one, she said it had been sent, but no worries we are up and running now.

One of the best tag companies is the ATMB Mont Blanc tunnel tag company You can even have a free year   They take all credit cards and are widely underrated outside of anywhere near the Area of France   They are of course not just used for the Mont Blanc tunnel but anywhere on the Péage network
Don't assume its you tag that's faulty either sometimes the readers don't work I have had this twice in the last year bad luck maybe. Once with a very fed up lady who was desperate to get someone out to fix the reader. Also its wise if you haven't got it on your windshield permanently to hold it up as you enter the area of the barrier not as you stop at the barrier then you will have to waive it around a fair bit
