Hello all,
I'm in the process of booking our crossing for the summer. Car & Caravan works out at £270 with P&O (Flexi), £323 with Eurotunnel & only £198 with MyFerryLink!

I was inclinded to book with them as I can put up with most things for a 90min crossing.

However it appears there's a bit of a drama at the moment as Eurotunnel own this ferry company and the other providers are trying to get them booted out of Dover. We did lose out one year when Speed Ferries went under.

How likely do you think is it that they will disappear too, or will another company takeover the sailings and ferries honouring tickets purchased?

You may find DFDS Dover-Dunc is just as competitive. No I would not use them for the same reason I never used SeaFrance. They are most likely operator to prove unreliable for various reasons, one being possibility of industrial action.

It would depend on the length of your hol. If its a long trip & you can put up with possible delay then ok but if you have a fortnight, out Sat morn & back on the Sunday for example then its relability you need, so your choice.

I would think though if they do cease operating any bookings would be honoured though as they are owned by Eurotunnel. As they are French crewed I would think most likely problem might be industrial action as it was with SeaFrance.

Never considered the industrial action side of things. Thanks for the response I'll avoid them. Cheers

Last time I looked DFDS Dover-Dunkerque was working out cheaper for Car+RoofBox+Trailer.

In fairness to MyFerryLink when they had the boss on R4, last month he did say it was business as usual, and that a new owner was being sought.

The boss of DFDS said that they were running at a loss on the Dover crossing, due to over capacity with having 4 operators for the Dover crossing, I guess he was including Eurotunnel in that.

So even if MyFerryLink goes under, there should be no problems getting a crossing with either P&O or DFDS, although the prices may rocket when that happens.

The only controlling fact is that the Dover ferry crossing is never going to be as expensive as Eurotunnel, so there is at least one comforting thought.

DFDS are sending out a discount code (E15EBO) for cheap crossings from Dover to France at the moment. Might be worth a look?

I have also booked Harwich to the Hook with Stena (outwards on Spring Bank Holiday and back on 3rd July) for car and caravan for £147 harryb. That's compared with £240+ booking direct with Stena so that's more than paid my membership cost for two years!

Cheapest is not always the most convenient.
Don't forget that P&O have many more sailings than other ferry operators so you won't need to rush for your ferry. If you are late they will normally simply put you on the next boat. It does take a lot of stress out of the drive to Dover.

Thanks Ronni, CODE works for Dover-Dunkerque, but not if you have Trailer/Caravan, I am gutted.

It Works out about fifty quid cheaper with a campervan on DFDS to Calais (with code) compared to Eurotunnel. We're just about to book for August so just need to weigh up the extra convenience of the tunnel versus the saving on DFDS.

On balance we'll probably stick with the tunnel, if only because Its much better when there's a dog on board.

Thanks for your info, it would be great make use of the codes, but we have a caravan. May have to bite the bullet, however we do have some Tesco vouchers which may help with the tunnel.

Sorry, I didn't check that as we have already booked our crossing for this year. Having done Dover to Dunkerque last year, we decided not to do it this year as we had massive hold ups on the M25 and again around Antwerp.

It's the NEC caravan show weekend after next, but I am not holding much hope for any car+caravan/trailer codes as DFDS are not at the show.
