Hi folks,

up to now we have carried two BP Gaslight bottles; sadly we cannot fit two bottles in our new van's gas locker.

So, when we go to France this year we would like to take a single BP bottle attached to the van, plus a smaller bottle (like the Calor 5kg Patio Gas bottles) to attach to the Cadac cooker.

But I'm after a bottle we can replace in the UK, or over in France if it runs out over there - does such a bottle exist please......?!

Thanks awfully!

If you are a regular traveler to France, buy one of their
light weight bottles. For about 30 eur you get a bottle, regulator and 10 kilos of gas. Much cheaper than camping gaz.Plus you can use it every time you are in France with no worries about running out.

As above Camping Gaz ( but expensive) or buy a 'Cube' in France. However we have a small BP cylinder which lasts us weeks! (just used for cooking)

BP bottles & Calor Patio gas bottles both use 27mm clip connectors so you will have these on your van. French Butagaz LeCube bottles both butane & propane use 27mm clip also the larger Butagaz Viseo butane bottles use 27mm clip so either of these bottles will fit your connectors.

Presume you have bulkhead regulator so ok for both butane & propane. You can get either bottle from French supermarket service areas. Intial cost is 20 odd € for bottle plus cost of contents. LeCube exchange is about 18€, I have one myself.

How long are you going for? If its in the summer months two x 6kgs Calor cylinders would more than likely last even for a couple of months if used with the site electrics.

Hi David..... And everybody! We only go for 3 weeks so not too much of an issue. The BP light bottles are too rotund to fit two in the locker. I thought something smaller would be better so can take it out of van to use it.

I was after something that I could buy in the UK and France so I don't need to worry about replacing. Campingaz may be more expensive but looks like easiest to replace home and abroad.

Have looked at something like the R904 bottle? Are the French ones available in the UK?

907s & 904s are available to buy or exchange in French supermarkets, in the shops rather than forecourts & at campsite shops. Campingaz bottles are common to all European countries so you can buy on in the UK & exchange it in France for a full one.

You will need correct fitting for Campingaz bottle depending on what pigtail fitting you have on your caravan already. See here. If your pigtail has pol fitting for Calor propane then you will need propane pol to butane adaptor & the Campingaz cylinder adaptor.
