Can anyone recommend a hotel/area to stay in, en route from calais to St julien des landes, la Vendee.
We need a family room/interconnecting rooms for a cheap stopover to break up the 7 hour journey!!

You don't really get large family or interconnecting rooms in budget hotels, unless you are a family of 4, in which case hotelBB do rooms for 4. We split up and have a kid or two each for the night, not ideal but saves faffing about.
Thanks Amanda, yes I have noticed the '4 person max' in most family rooms .
I'm tempted to book a family room at the b&b hotel and sneak a child in..???!!
We did when the kiddies were small, the only thing is that lots of the BB family rooms have the two kids beds on a mezzanine level with a small railing, so you'd need to trust them not to climb over. We took a ready bed thing for the smallest one, she was about 3 or so I guess, and it was fine. Think she ended up between me and hubby anyway.

Kate, have a look on booking.com and in the search under rooms enter the number of rooms, adults and children you want. You can find some super family run hotels, with flexible accommodation, and by the time you've added in breakfast it can be as cheap as all but the the most basic budget hotels
Yep, we've had a look on booking.com and have found a few.
The other option i guess is to get 2 rooms next door at an Ibis or similar.
If I'm honest, I'm uncomfortable with the idea of sneaking one in (British reserve lol) 😂
when my kids were very small we booked a formula one hotel and arrived in the middle of the night. We assumed that like others we had stayed at it would be credit card entry and so we could get away with 2 kids in the 3 person room.
Wrong.... a very officious clerk on the desk insisted that we pay for an extra room. My kids were so young that one was very likely to be sharing a bed with her parents anyway!

Last year we stayed at a hotel called hotel inter le lion du or I think that's the correct name it was in a place called brice en cogles which was south of mont st Michel,we had a large family room with two huge bedrooms for our family of four, you will find it on booking.com
Oh and there is also a gated car park at rear which you need a code for so pretty secure,
Done this ourselves, we had early evening crossing from Calais and stayed in "B&B"branded motel near to sangatte got a good nights sleep and hit the road knowing we could take our time as we had all day to get there. this I have found better than an early crossing and driving whilst dog tired.
