Planning on driving through Germany either from Dunkirk or zeebrugge. Our final destination would be Europa park and the Black Forest . Can anyone suggest a route where we would stop for a few days sightseeing? We usually do France and Holland but fancied a change.
------------- cheesy
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
We always cross using eurotunnel then turn left onto the A16/E40 then right following the E40 at Ostend all the way to the Mosel.
Most of the journey is done through Belgium - no tolls anywhere on the route! Have a look at google maps and do a bit of route planning. As it is motorway/express way all the way the driving is nice and easy with plenty of stops along the way.
The Mosel has quite a few campsites which you would need to book as you are caravanners. Stellplatz are for motorhomes only.
Sight seeing in this valley is delightful as are all the little villages on the wine route.
Have a great time in Germany - we love it. You can read about our exploits in our blog linked from my profile.
Have you considered the Newcastle - Ijmuiden ferry ?
It is more expensive than the short Channel crossings but when you take into account the saving on fuel and overnight accomodation not to mention stress - It's well worth it.
We are going to Germany but I guess stopping at many more places than you will be. This will be from end of May to beginning of July, using the cheap rate ACSI sites. We will be using 2 routes- Dunkerke-Jabbeke-Bure/Tellin- Siersburg-Riegel. I think this last is near Europa Park and it looks an interesting area, if you like geography/geology as I do.
Then we are heading to Bavaria (Via Claudia site at Immenstadt), we may stay at Orsingen en route. Back via Horb am Neckar-Neckargemund-Geisenheim-Heerlen(in Holland)-Jabbeke-Dunkerque.
You will love Europa Park and offers incredible value with current exchange rates (I would buy two day tickets in advance personally) If you search on here for Europa Park you should see my post I did about it last year as I couldn't find a lot about it on any camping forums before we went.
Route wise from Dunkirk you would probably be looking at mostly toll free all way
Head for Lille, Tournai down past Mons and across past Charleoi and at Namur head south towards Luxembourg on the A4. At Luxembourg fill up with cheapest fuel in Europe and head towards Metz and then on some tolls roads (E25) round towards Strasbourg where you can cross over Rhine into Germany and Black Forest area. From there you will either head north or South on the toll free 5 to your destination.
Mostly toll free all way apart from some French bits between Lux and Germany and easy drive

Hi. I'm Hoping to go to Black forest this year too...any idea of how long that would take and suggestions of overnight stops ?
We always stay at Prumtal Camping a Five star ACSI site near to Bitburg. Takes ACSI Camping Card out of season excellent site in Germany listed on this website in Campsite list.

Through Belgium and Luxembourg (get your cheap petrol) to the Mosel would be my choice, staying at Landal Warsberg at Saarburg which is very nice, lots of walks from the site and a good few places to go nearby. From there the best route to Rust would be through the Vosges in France though - although you could also take an extended route through Kaiserslautern and/or Worms ?
We are off to Germany Black Forest too. Our route is Harwich to Hook, a few days stopover on the Rhine. Then onto Schluchsee. Route back is Kockelscheuer (Luxembourg), then Oostende. Not tried any of the campsites but reviews are good.
I would suggest Hull to Rotterdam or if the ferry still sails from Roysth. Arrive refreshed abroad ready for the drive, instead of battling M25, M6 etc
Good luck

From Calais its around 450 miles via Belgium/Lux back into France and over Rhine into Black Forest
We are quite near South East so for us was an easy two day drive with one stopover on Belgium/Lux border
I start near london myself....so will try to aim for same.
What's a good stopover for you and what time do you get to your campsite in Black Forest.

When we camp we spill out quite a lot, so we'd probably be looking for a campile or a Premier Inn type facility (with a Pizza takeaway in the vicinity)
