Hi, we are camping from Easter Sunday to the following Friday at the above site. Can anybody tell me how easy the transport system is to use from Delft. We are planning on going to The Hague and Amsterdam. Do we have to get a pre-paid travel card or can we pay by cash, when we catch the train? Is it expensive?

We normally go to France, but we thought we would try somewhere different for a few days, so we are sailing from Hull to Rotterdam.

Any advice or recommendations would be gratefully received.

Sarah

About an hour each way by train and £20 return fare per person from Delft to Amsterdam - so we preferred to drive up there and stay at one of the Amsterdam campsites to do justice to that city.

You are on the spot and obviously right, but why do different rail websites quote such wildly different prices for the train fare?

I notice that Delftse Hout is a new addition in the Camping Card ACSI book (Page 89)

Hope this helps

Many thanks for your replies. Yes, humberflyer we are using the ACSI card. I first saw the site listed in the C&CC book, they actually have an Easter rally on at the same time as we are there. Me being the bargain hunter that I am, I thought I'd just see if I could get it cheaper by camping cheques or acsi

I am fairly certain that we took the tram to The Hague but it was a few years ago.

There is a bus from outside the site into Delft. The fare was 2 Euros when we were last there in 2013. Or you can walk it in about 15 minutes!

We are staying there at the end of May en route to Eindhoven from The Hook. Unfortunately the ACSI card is not accepted while I am there as it is the Pentecost Holiday in Holland.

We were there last year and used our bikes on the excellent cycleways, going to Scheveningen via The Hague one day. However, there is a direct tram service to the Hague, starting from near the railway station I think. I seem to remember the bus from outside the site runs in summer only but there is a bus stop at the end of the road the site is on, about 5 mins walk I would guess, where you can get a bus to take you to the station. They are very helpful at the site reception and speak perfect English! You may also find details on the site's website. You will need to use cash rather than a credit card in supermarkets as our systems are not compatible. The campsite takes cards though, as do some of the gifty-type shops in the town but don't know about transport I'm afraid. If you have bikes, take them and use them - we're "fair-weather cyclists" only but really enjoyed using our bikes in and around Delft.

What dates at the end of May? Pentecost is the 24th and 25th, but the ACSI card is accepted again from the 25th, all the way to the 1st of July, see HERE. Accceptance dates are in blue.

I love delft and wish we were there this year .
However get the bus and tram to The Hague . Also on the same bus go to scheveningen the beach it's a must and is gorgeous. Don't take the car it's not worth it .
We always take the car to amsterdam because my son lives near so we park then get the tram or metro in . It's easy just ask if your unsure people will help you .
Have a good time .

Hello,

We stayed there last summer, excellent site. We didn't use public transport to Delft/The Hague, we cycled it!

For a family of four the train to Amsterdam was a bit pricey at £80, so we drove. It was an hour's drive and used the excellent Amsterdam park and ride. We used the P+R by the RAI exhibition centre and the bus stopped right outside and took us right into the centre in about 20 mins.

Thanks for that Ina. When we booked, it was for 24th. We have now had to change our booking to 25th but, as we are only stopping one night at a cost of 23.90 euros, it would be more expensive by the time we paid for the card. As we have then booked a long term pitch direct with a site for the following 6 weeks we wouldn't get further use from the card this year.
