Hi all,

we are hoping to go to Ferme Noemie campsite in Rhones Alpes this September for our hols and was wondering if anyone has been here or to this area before and could advise us on a good route. Also are there any tolls for this trip? Any information and advice would as always be much appreciated.

We stayed at that campsite in 2009 when we had a tent, a vf

Fantastic we'll run site with large pitches and good facilities. The owners are very friendly and helpful. From memory we travelled from Calais to Dijon for an overnight stop (Formula1 motel) then to Grenoble. Some of the route tolls but could avoid them with some planning. We returned via Paris, straight through no problems and overnighted North of Paris before early start and Chunnel and home to West Yorks.
Superb area with stunning scenery and great walking/cycling opportunities, it was our last canvas holiday before the tin tent arrived and very fond memories.

It's a very long way to go in one hit - and I'd say impossible from Gateshead! My sons have done it once, from a start point in London, but said Never again.

I would find an overnight stop in a budget hotel with secure parking for your trailer - lots of trailer campers do without problems.

We were a couple of miles away from that site last summer - went past it on the main road but didn't go on to look at it, so can't help with that.

Although we were seduced by a cheap offer at an ACSI card site nearby (Belledonne) ) if we went again we would stay at the municipal site in Allemond village because it's at the heart of that little community.

It actually took us nine days to get there from Cornwall , but that was with a small caravan not a tent - so many interesting places to see on the way. We did our usual pick and mix with motorways on the way.

When you are in the area be sure to drive to the top of the Lautaret Pass to see the Alpine garden - little visited, but stunning on a sunny day.

Via Michelin says 75 euros for class 1 tolls from Calais to Bourg d Oisans using autoroutes.

Certainly pay to get through the industrial North of France , but then there are stretches after that where the old road is good enough and you can choose.

We are returning to this site in July for Le Tour and were there for the same reason in 2013.

Lovely well run site.

Last year to get our Le Tour in France fix in the Pyrenees other circumstances forced a shorter holiday and so we travelled Portsmouth - Caen on a Saturday afternoon and drove over night to arrive in Argeles Gazost around 9.00am.
Ok we are a family of adults and not towing, but after this experience it is our intention to do Bourg d'Oisans in one go again with plenty of stops. We do Dover-Calais and motorway to Grenoble. Dover, on a good run we can do in 2 hours.

So ...... we did it!

Headed out around tea time on a Saturday from Dover - Calais and docked around 9.00pm local time.
Trip down took longer than anticipated, in part due to not being in a particular hurry and also due to increasing temperature and the need to try and cool down.
All stops were at full service stations, all open and some very busy with caravans, cars and campers stopping to sleep.
Around Dijon we stopped for a couple of hours sleep. Fermie Noemie is probably another 4 hours drive from there.

Our return trip last Sunday, left the site at 11.00am and arrived in Calais around 9.30pm. A better run as temperature dropped as we headed north and felt positively cold by the time we reached Calais! We had no delays at any tolls and felt Sunday a good day to travel due to less lorries on the road.

We had incredible weather whilst there with some cooling storms. We were fortunate at both Dover and Calais with no issues.

Not sure if you are aware that the D1091 is closed at the Chambon tunnel due to a landslip in April with no idea when it will reopen.

Hi we have just got back, we hit the motor away at darlington, co durham at 6pm on Thursday night, headed straight to euro tunnel with a crossing booked at 3.20am. (we arrived just after 12 midnight) I was hoping for the earlier crossing at 1am ish but they said it was full! so a bit of hanging around got of at Calais at 7am (was an incident on the tunnel). We headed straight to Bourg-en-bresse. There was two of us sharing the driving. We reached there about 3.30pm had a few small stops on route. Here we stayed in a premiere class. That left another 90plus miles to reach St Gervais Les Bain. Left at 8.30am arrived at site at 10.15am.

We uses toll roads all the way.

Would I change anything about our journey. No nothing at all. Good drive on both sides not heavy traffic and I love the Aires we should have them here. lol

Thanks all - really helpful, we're heading that way a week on Saturday (Venosc).

We're booked on a 00.50 tunnel crossing and are planning on doing it all in one hit - hubby spends lots of time driving for his job (sales manager) so doesn't mind doing that. In fact in previous years we've done the Languedoc and also Austria in one hit (that was a bit more difficult after being stuck on the M25 for 5 hours due to a lorry fire!)
