Hi, I read in a post a couple of months ago about things to do in the South of France and it was mentioned about going wild swimming in the thermal springs up in the hills above Argeles! I have had a look on the internet and the only thing I can find is Argeles-Gazost. Could anybody confirm if this is correct or are the thermal springs above Argeles-Sur-Mer?
Thanks in advance

Degsytroy I replied in that thread, and the springs were definitely above Argeles sur Mer.

This is my reply:

We're now back from France and I've had a word with my son. Unfortunately he can't remember the exact location - he thinks it may have been somewhere along the gorges de Massane - or perhaps nearer to Le Boulou. It's more than ten years ago since he was there, and unfortunately doesn't have my memory! We went up there with a party of couriers from the campsite at Argeles and I can't tell you either, as we were sitting in the back of the car being 'driven' and taking no notice. I can say that it was only twenty to thirty minutes from Argeles, and we headed out along the Le Boulou road from Le Bois de Valmarie where he was working. You could see Argeles 'down below' from the road where we parked - that's all the help I can give you. Apologies.

By the way, I know you used to (or perhaps still do) keep your caravan down there - where exactly do you or did you store it? You can email me a reply on valdaathome at gmail.com rather than 'hijack' this thread!

I would add that there are definitely thermal springs, but a proper 'establishment' at Le Boulou, which is not that far away from Argeles sur Mer, but I'm sorry I can't come up with a more exact locaction. You may find, as I said in the earlier thread, that campsite staff know the location. I know when my son was 'couriering' they kept all the best locations to themselves!

This set me thinking, and google found this: Springs and Spas in Languedoc

I was aware that there's a chain of volcanoes that are extinct along the coast, including those at Agde, Sète, St Thibéry; but had forgotten how recently they became so. Long may they stay that way.

[I thought I'd commented on this .....]
Le Boulou used to be a major spa resort and, I believe, still has some waters. Further up into the hills after Le Boulou is Amelie les Bains - names speak for itself although I've never notice any hot water when I've been!
There were probably lots of hot springfs around here but nothing too spectacular?

The one we visited was somewhere between Le Boulou and Argeles. We shall be down there again in a month or so, and I shall make a point of trying to find the place again! It wasn't 'spectactular' just a hot spring in a very attractive small gorge, accessible from the road after a bit of a scramble.
