We are planning to visit the Mont St Michel area late June / early July and this site looks to match our wish list for being close enough to the Mount for an easy cycle ride there and back and close enough to a village/town to walk/cycle in to shops, cafes etc. It is, however a bigger site with far more facilities than we would normally stay on.
2 questions - is Camping Haliosis likely to be busy at this time of the year? Does anybody have recommendations for a more "low-key" site in easy cycling distance of the Mont St Michel and a reasonable sized village/town?

I can't speak for Camping Haliotis - it's very popular but far too grand for us!
Have a look at Camping les Couesnons - a three star site with a shorter cycle ride to the Mont, or if you like tiny sites then La Croix Galliot at Cherreuix - but that one is further away and not in a sizeable village.
Hi we stayed at Camping Haliotis last year for 2 nights at the end of August on our way back to Cherbourg for the reason of going to see Mont St Michel. Every other year we drove passed it just seeing it in the distance so we decided to go and see it just to say I have done the Mont St Michel thing.
The campsite is quite large but not in your face and pleasant. nice pool and a bit of a pet farm. But the best thing about the campsite is the cycle to Mont St Michel. It could not be easier just go out the back path from the site and turn right and it's about a 10 km cycle to Mont St Michel along the canal bank it is very doable for all ages. park your bike at the visitors center and get the free bus to Mont St Michel. We did not even go in, we just took off our shoes of and walked all around the outside and them had a picnic on the sand.
There is a carfour very close to the campsite as well which is quicker to cycle to than drive to it.
So nice campsite and would recommend it.
------------- Happy Camping
Andrew.

Many thanks for your comments.
Roulston - that sounds like the sort of thing we're intending to do. Would you say it's worth a 2-3 night stop to visit Mont St. Michel?
We stayed a Haliotis a few years back and cycled (off road) to M St M, the mount itself is lovely, very interesting but it gets VERY busy with coach loads of tourists so the Ville part is a bit like Sardines but get past that and it's good! Yes I would have thought a couple of days would be good as you could go at 'odd' times and perhaps miss the main crowds!

Well we arrived the first day about 2 in the Afternoon after 4 hours travelling, so we just chilled that day. Next day we went to Mont St. Michel and back about 3pm and then chilled some more and the next morning we upped and left for the boat. So I would recommend 2 night stay so you are not rushing after all you are on Holidays.
