Hi, I've been given a mixture of advice and wonder if anyone can help me. We're going to france to tour the west coast from 6th to 17th July, can anyone recommend any good campsites and is it more advisable to pre book?
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Your dates are at the start of peak season not the absolute peak so you will have no probs finding space, huge choice of sites in that area & not as busy as the Med coast. I can only recommend naturist sites in the area if that's what you are looking for.
France is pretty much a campers paradise. Head for the camping abroad section and also look at the campsite reviews via the link above. My west coast favourite is Camping Atlantique Foret, in a quiet spot just to the north of La Palmyra.

Check out the official website for France at Www.CampingFrance.com which lists over 9000 sites in France. Use the map search for the area you want and then use the refine search e.g. Number of stars, swimming pools etc to narrow it down. Also check the reviews on this web site. Good luck with the search.
You say touring, 11 days is not very long, and if you visit a number of campsites, a lot of your holiday time will get used up travelling and pitching.
Maybe that's your intention, which is fine, but with such a short time scale would you not be better finding just the one campsite and using that as a base to visit the region.
I imagine added to your 11 days is a couple of days, either side for travelling to the region and back from UK if that is your home location.

When you say west coast do you mean Brittany, the Vendee or even further south than that?
I can particularly help with the first of those, but if you are starting from Calais it's 400 miles of driving just to get there.

What are you touring with?
Tent, van, motorhome, FC, TT?
Which one will partly influence how often you want to move.
The whole west coast is a very long stretch ... so, maybe you'd help us to help you by narrowing it down a little ... and let us know which ferry croissing you are planning to use and how many camp sites you plan to use.
Then, you'll be inundated with suggestions!
