Good afternoon all,

Having gone from tent, to trailer tent, to caravan, to plane we are now back to tent with minimal equipment and looking to plan a trip for next summer to Germany, Austria and if time permits take in a bit of Switzerland. I think the duration would be about 17 days possibly maybe spending 4/5 nights or more at each depending on what's deemed necessary. We have camped in France about 4 times and now fancy a change. I don't know these countries or where would be best for a family with children aged at the time at 13, 11 and 8 (all boys) and would therefore welcome any suggestions of sites to stay at including overnight stays etc. we would be traveling from Calais

Assuming you like the water element there a lots of sites around lake Constance which of curse is in Germany Switzerland and Austria    There are quite a few sites around   If you search in here there is quite a few posts of Lake Constance sites We used to stay on one but it turned to static homes a few years back but there are many others. it may at least prove a starting point for your search.

A couple of years ago we did camping Wang near Interlaken followed by Natterersee near Innsbruck before travelling back up to Koblenz for a few nights. It was one of our favourite trips with two of our top sites

Thank you. Nattersee looks great m think we will try there. How long would you think we'd need there to enjoy, but not exhaust? I was thinking 6/7 nights
I'm trying to find somewhere in Germany and want to visit Europa Park whilst there too. If anyone has any good suggestions for a site within good travel to there?

Off the top of my head we did 8nights at Natterersee and could have stayed longer. The highlight of the trip was the white water rafting that you can book through the site. Our daughters were 12 and 13 at the time and they and us loved it!!

Someone else suggested 8-10 nights Ratman, so will look at that being our 'long' stay. I've decided on this one and I think one at the North end of Lake Garda too. Need to factor in 1/2 nights in Germany and then the journey back up through France/Switzerland 😊

Not even going into next year, bu like to get organised and all booked up as soon as they start their booking!

This year we are doing one night stopover in France, then Switzerland for 5nights, Italy next 7nights at Lake Como, then back into France near Djion for 6nights and then straight home. We do like to tour and your trip sounds like it will be fantastic

Sounds great Ratman.

You've just made me think that we will need at least a 2 night stay before Calais and home just for one final chill as opposed to about 2/3 days consecutive travel home. I figure it'll be best to do the long jaunts on the way down and leisurely head back up to Calais via Places I've mentioned.

I suppose it is each to their own we have done it both ways, got to Calais and stopped in a budget hotel and then travelled home. Other times stopped a couple of hours away then travelled to Calais.
This year we have booked a later crossing and doing it in one from the site which will be quite a few hours driving. Do the crossing, get something to eat and then travel home to try and miss all the usual traffic bottle necks.
