Hi. Does anyone know of a nice campsite somewhere in the Loire preferable by a river or lake that is not too expensive? We're not bothered about pools or entertainment and will be driving back from Arcachon so need somewhere pretty to stop for a couple of nights. Thanks

Azay le Rideau municipal site is alongside the river and chateau BUT be aware that the chateau itself was shrouded in scaffolding In April for major refurbishment work.

Le Moulin Fort, Chenenceaux right on the river and next to chateau, English owners. Worth a look and ACSI too

No river beside it but have a look at Le Chant D'Oiseau , north of Saumur. 10/10 on reviews here. We love it.

Durtal and La Fleche are also good value sites, and both have riverside pitches, and heated pools. la Fleche town is bigger and livelier, with a great market on Wednesdays.

We can recommend le Moulin Fort, very well kept site and well placed for chateaux and Loire villages.

The pitches down the far end of the site are nicer although not all have electric

We stay at the Ile D'offard in Saumur - on an island in the Loire.

its a flower camping site and we have been staying there for the last 5 years and the standards have improved each year.

Would recommend Flower Camping sites like one at Saumur. While in this area for motorhome owners there is a lovely free aire at Cunault between Saumur and Gennes on south side of river. It is right down by the river and there are both open and shady areas. very pretty village but bar has shut down so make sure you are stocked up. Boulanger calls most mornings between 8 and 8.15 between now and end Aug - far too early for us. Plenty of nice walks and good open flood plain area for walking the dogs. Site clearly marked by usual aires sign
