Hi
After a fabulous month touring Scotland in a motor home, we have decided to tour the Champagne and probably the Alsace regions in France. Any tips or advice would be most welcome as this will be only our 2nd trip in a motor home, I think you could say we are addicted!!!

Hi Keith
We will hiring a motothome (our last hire was a swift escape 664) I would imagine it would be a similar hire. There will be 2 of us and planning for either June or September next year!! Was under the impression you could not take motor homes on the tunnel? A bit far in advance I know but I thought the earlier the better.
Yes you can take motorhomes on the tunnel, lots on here do it all the time.
In France you have two choices, you can use campsites or 'aires'. Aires vary greatly from just a small carpark type place with maybe water fill / empty to many that have electric, loos and even wifi.
Many people buy a book called 'All the Aires' which lists thousands. Pretty much every town and village has an aire of some sorts and you can also find details of them on several websites - just google France - aires.
For campsites most use ACSI as they get discounts on hundreds of sites with the card / book which costs around £8, we find we can usually obtain similar low prices using aires or using smaller campsites with less than 20'ish pitches.
France is possibly (along with Germany) the most motorhome friendly country in Europe, you will love it.

Have a look at France Passion too. Free overnighting on places like farms and vineyards if you buy a book and spend some money on produce. I have never used it, but others have. I bet there are loads in the scheme in Burgundy!
Agree with Dot P's advice. We try to use aires as much as possible as most are free but some of them are not much more than car parks. Great for an overnight stay but we usually book into a site for a couple of nights if we want to explore a specific area. Also depends when you are travelling as with the boom in motorhomes many aires get filled up very quickly during the season. You may also want to check out www.campingcar-park.com. This is a new chain of private motorhome aires which offer electric and wifi for a fixed price of between 9 to 12 euros. They have automatic barriers which will dispense initially a plastic card and you can then top this up either for one night or multiple nights with your credit card. You can also do this online. If you pay a small additional annual fee you can get an advance booking facility. They are expanding quite rapidly with new sites opening regularly. There is 24hr access. We have used them quite a lot in areas where the aires are poor.
E mail me if you want any further info otherwise happy travelling and enjoy the motorhome!!

With a MH the Aires in France are fantastic, nearly every village/town has one, some are free, some are free to stay but you pay to get fresh water/elec.
Don't get fooled by things called "Aires" on the motorways/dual carriageways they are resting sites to picnic on, toilet facilities etc., don't overnight on them they are not safe!
Have fun you will love it there, so MH friendly!
