Hi Chaps,

3 weeks to go and not that Im worrying!! but I have seen the future weather forecast for France and does look like its changing for the worst. With 3 weeks to go till camping in French Alps Im thinking of a plan B.

Any suggestions? If I go to the East side, I don't think I want to travel right down south but if that's were the sun is? Its still to early I think to decide but if I had a short list of sites would make the decision much easier I guess. I would only have to cancel the site and few B&B we have booked.

Look forward to any suggestions or tips.

Plan A booked is my perfect idea of paradise so it would have to be horrendous for me to cancel lolx

We live in France and ignore any weather forecast more than 5 days in advance and only really take note of the next two days.

Don't bother with Plan B if your going in peak, stick with Plan A, and to hell with the weather.

If your touring around out of Peak, for a month or two, then chasing the Sun is fine.

We have a finite amount of time 3 weeks in France, during July which includes 15 nights on the main campsite, so the odd day of bad weather I can live with.

We always head for the South East, Ardeche and Med etc.

Looking at the Meteo it not good as we get to the end of June, but then it looks like business as usual as we head into July.

Anyway we have 5 overnight hotels all booked and paid for, 100€ deposit paid to campsite and Dover ferry booked.

So for us there is no chance of a Plan B.

Hmmm ...

My philosophy : Always have a plan B ... for everything!

We very seldom book a site ahead ... usually have plans A, B and C! Which entails three different areas, and about three different potential camp sites in each area ...
Then ... on the ferry ... check up on the seven day forecast ... if Plan A area is bad, then we shift to B etc.
Half the point of camping is flexibility ... if you book sites ahead, and are stuck with them, there's little difference to pre-booking an appartment or hotel or gite.

Just my modus operandi ... each to his/her own ...

We're like Kelper.

We never make our minds up until our first night and even then plans and routes can change depending on circumstances. We find WiFi wherever we are (in previous times this used to mean looking on the back page of Aujord'hui), find the best forecast and head in that direction, changing our route accordingly. Then night two we check again and can make adjustments to the route/ journey/area.

One year, on our way south to Italy (where we were still heading) we got down to the bottom of the Rhone Valley and saw severe storm warnings for Italy, so we turned right instead of left, and went to Spain instead! We rarely plan how long we will stay - sometimes until the weather holds out, sometimes leaving the next day if we don't like an area, or a site, or our neighbours are noisy!

Try it one year without booking anything, and discover one of the real joys of touring in France - complete flexibility.

What's plan A?

Currently in Frejus. We have definitely, finally,for certain, without deviation and at last, 8 times, chosen our next destination.

We are still here.

Suppose we are going to have to move but sunshine and light breezes are rather nice.

By all means have a plan b but I wouldn't be basing it on a 3 week long range "forecast" in France that is for sure. Epsecially when weather can be so variable one side of a valley to another in mountainous regions.

We've always booked our campsites in advance & been lucky with the weather, until last year where it rained solidly for two weeks on us in Brittany. Never again! We're heading off next Saturday with a vague plan of meanderingdown the west coast but we will change our plans if the weather is bad. Fingers crossed!
