Good advice from Berriow - I rarely book, only if meeting up with others somewhere. Always found pitches, even on the Med coast in August! You only have to go inland a bit to find a site such as a Camping A La Ferme within 10 mins walking distance of the beach at Port Grimaud (short-cutting through the big campsite) Last year stayed for a while in the Ardeche in August. But, as Berriow says...it depends how relaxed you are. We did have one bad year when it rained non stop for days in the whole of France except Provence area, every body and his dog migrated south and we could not find a site in the Gorge De Verdon area - ended up in St Aygulf on possibly last available pitch in Provence!

Hi, we normally don't book and generally once in France head down a motorway, look at the weather and then decide where we are going so we are usually pretty relaxed about it. As we are limited to just over a week this time in roughly one region and in a month when we normally don't go I wasn't sure if we should book or not. If the sages think we do not need to book in early July then that is fine with me!
