we are planning to camp in the Jura at camping Les Merilles.mid August
Any tips suggestions this is new to us .Thought we would try to visit Geneva do we need a vignette, and how do we get one.
going camping in the next hour so will have to wait to read replies.
thanks in advance.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
You can buy a vignette on line in advance, you can buy at petrol stations before you get to the border, or you can buy at the main border crossings. But just to go to boring Geneva? I wouldn't bother.
If you are near Cascades de Herrison, they are a fantastic site to see.

Thanks for replies , , we are very close to the Cascades de Herrison, so want to visit. We have relatives in Geneva so want to see them, do you mean ,not bother getting a Vignette, is it only needed for motorways?

bear in mind the vignette is also required for semi motorways as well, from where you are camping there should be no need to use motorways but it is easy to get confused at major city junctions. remember motor way signs are green, A roads are blue !!
We camped by Lac de Chalain about 10 years ago. I'd agree that Herrison Falls are worth the visit and we went to Geneva as well - the view from the top of the Jura range across to the Alps is spectacular (on a clear day).
If you're going to Lons Le Saunier to shop (was the nearest supermarket) it is worth going out on the D471 Champagnole / Doubs road for a couple of miles to see the view down to Baumes les Messieurs.
The local Comte cheese is excellent and the wines quite unusual - I understand Jura wines are considered quite hip at the moment.
Hi.
There are a few coaches that go to Geneva if you don't fancy driving.
If you look at my review for La Pergola on lac de Chalain, there are a few day trips described including a great day to lake Geneva.
Hi ice pop.
We went 2 years on the trot. The second year we did different things and went different places. Eg kayaked across lake vouglans and found a fabulous jumping in rock with a handmade ladder purely by accident.
We also did a river kayaking trip which was was very enjoyable. If you are interested in these then I would have to study the maps!
