Being an ex driver out of Aalsmeer in Holland believe it or not your best way for speed is actually Arnhem E35 onto Duisburg then E35 onto Frankfurt and down that way Darmstadt etc Its probably the longest of 4 possible ways but A doesn't involve tolls on the shortest and B is by far the quickest. I would guess its about 40 to 50 kilometers longer than the shortest way (so all 4 ways are between 40km 50km difference in total) but as its free moving 99 percent of the way and at decent speed it will likely be shorter by over an hour at least
You dont say what time your arriving but as your Marple way (used to live there) I am assuming your Hull Rotterdam so an arrival in Rotterdam and once off would see you about 9 am out of the port, just missing Rotterdam traffic...Allow about 6 hours drive plus stops, would likelyy see you there mid to late afternoon, you wont hit any rush hour traffic.

Don't go round the Antwerp ring road if you want your sanity to remain intact! we thought Brussels was bad, but at least the traffic kept moving...

For anyone coming off at Europort try not to go south on the E19 N1 unless your heading for north west France area ..If Antwerp doesn't get you Brussels will unless travelling in the dead of night. The far quicker routes are off to the right.

You dont need to go via Antwerp or Brussels to get to Freiburg.
I went last year to south of Freiburg via Rudesheim. My route was very easy and traffic/trouble free.
Rotterdam A15 to Nijmegen, A73 south to Venlo, German/Dutch border then A61 south to near Heidelburg, then A5 to Freiburg. I worked that route out because it looked the least congested and with only a few location/roads to remember and head for. It worked very well indeed.
I must say that I didn't look at routes further east as Mark suggested because it all looked very built up so very busy.
Enjoy the Black Forest it's beautiful

Thanks for all of your advice folks. I will disembark at 09.00 on a Monday so I have all day to get there. If we can arrive at the campsite still on speaking terms that will count as a success!
