As Val says, it's best to check on the day really. Things can change within an hour, as last week's, and this week's, events have shown.
We came back a week ago today: at that time Operation Stack was in force, and both sides of the M20 were closed. Yes, diversion signs were very much in evidence! We had to come off the M20, onto the A20, and it took us nearly 2 hours to travel 30 miles! It wasn't a pleasant journey.
But, if Operation Stack isn't in force then it will be much better of course.
We allowed 2 hours last week Thursday, as the ferries weren't running and we anticipated a lot of people trying to get on the tunnel, but in the event it was actually very quiet, and we got an earlier train by 1.25 hours! Which, needless to say, we lost in all that diversion  But we were luckier than most, at least we got home on the day we'd booked, a lot of people were sitting it out on the campsite waiting to get a ferry.
