I posted earlier in the year asking for advice about towing from Zeebrugge to Lake Garda as we have done France for ten years and wanted to try Italy.

Berriow suggested trying the northern Lakes instead and we are here in camping conca d'oro on Lake Maggiore. It is stunning, everything is cheap and we are pitched right on the beach. It's 34 degrees everyday and the Italians are such lovely people.

It's a wonderful holiday and well worth a couple of hours extra drive...we will be back. Having holidayed in France for ten years I am in the grip of an Italy fever. It's fantastic!

Thanks Berriow !

Cool! I agree the lakes magiore and como are spectacular. I stayed at carenaro riviera once on a motorbike trip we stayed in a hotel but actually walked to the campsite and had a meal and beers in their bar. I also stayed in moltrasio on lake como which was stunning although again I was in a hotel. More recently I have taken my tent and stayed at camping au lac in sorico at the top end if lake como, stunning location but what I found was the Italians don't seem to do camping and most other campers were foreign. The Italian campsites were generally not great compared to the French sites but it sounds like you have found a good one.

I am at Camping Conca D'oro in Ferriolo, on Lake Maggiore. Large grass pitches, immaculate, well equipped site, mainly Dutch, Swiss and German fellow campers who mostly speak some English and are very friendly. Reception speak English and the area is stunning. You can sail, windsurf, etc right from the beach.
