Hi we are traveling to France in our motorhome next week and we have never gone south via the Alps we always go via Milau and stay around that area.
My son is a keen motor sports enthusiast so I have always promised him a trip to Monaco so I said we would head there for a couple of nights before we head to ardeche, as anyone any advice on a camp site nearby so we can get the train maybe or do we risk trying to get near in the motorhome but I believe there is only one car park for motorhomes.

Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated also any nice places to stop in the Alps with 2 boys 16 and 10.

Thanks

There is a bus and rail service along the SE coast so from Antibes or so it's a reasonable day trip. We camp near the station at Biot and take the train, there are a number of sites on Avenue du Pylone, listed on here.

The easiest route to get there is the autoroute Reims, Dijon, Lyon etc but quite expensive on tolls. You can do the last part on Route Napoleon, but it's slow and tedious, though very scenic.

Yes the easiest drive is Lyon etc. Not sure if there any any campsites near Nice but as has been said take the train in.   Dont be tempted with any boat trips, they aren't worth the cost. Take the far cheaper and just as scenic train. When in Monaco take the Place D'Armes exit from the station and walk up the slope to the Palace on the Rock. There is a local bus # 1, it will take you to the only other big sight The Casino Square. That's your lot it will take you 3 to 4 hours at most unless you plan walking the circuit or a trip to the Oceanographic Museum or Baccarat in the Casino.

Thank you very much for the above info, we are planning to go in August and now will probably stay at Biot and get the train.

Biot village is up in the hills, the station is on the coast. The campsites are very variable so choose carefully.
We always use the Logis one on the main road, but that wouldn't suit everyone.
