If they don't have a lot of time, I'd say the Halfords route is a bit risky... especially at that time of the morning!
I'd go past Sainsbury's, over the flyover, then turn left at the lights by the Red Lion!
Don't go left at the Red Lion - speed bumps. Take the next left after and join further on. Watch out for the speed camera.
