We have a return ferry booked to leave Santander at 9.00pm (we have to check in at 6.45pm) and so we need somewhere to spend the day nearby. We will be camping at Bidart which is only 3 hours away and will probably have to vacate that site by 12pm.
Anybody know where we can hang out with a caravan for a few hours en-route? We will have a few hours to kill!!
Many thanks.

Sue, I haven't been there, but people speak of parking at Cabarceno nature park, about 20 km from Santander. Motorhome owners often stay there overnight so the car park might well be big enough for a caravan in the day time . Google will give you information about it. Is that any help?
We stayed in Bidart a couple of years ago sailing from Santander. From memory although it was meant to be a 3 hour journey it took well over 4 hours including delays at the border crossing through sheer volume of traffic.
You can arrive at the ferry port anytime before departure and park up. You can then walk out through turnstile into Santander. Just need to be back 2hrs before departure.

Thanks so much for your replies - I will check out the nature reserve as it sounds a nice place to stop - but I think my husband will be twitchy and will just want to get to the port. I didn't realise we could park up so early. I wonder how safe it would be to leave the caravan unattended there though? It would be nice to have a stroll around Santander - went a couple of years ago and really enjoyed looking around.
Very clear, its in the actual lanes. The ferry staff will direct you into your lane then they tell you you can go off into town but give you a time to be back.
you wont hold anyone up, when you get there you will see everyone does it.
