According to reports in France it seems that as the DFDS ship entered calais, the crew exchanged insults with one of the MyFerry ships involved in the dispute..
When the DFDS ship had docked the crew of the MyFerry ship set off some distress flares one of which landed on the DFDS ship...
One of the leaders of the strikers has apologised, but says his crew should not have been provoked while feelings are so inflamed..

Shouldn't that be an offence, setting off a distress flare. But even if it was the French Police wouldn't do anything

Thanks happybonzo, fantastic link.
We arrived at Dunkerque last Saturday, at 9.30am for our 12 noon crossing, our hang in the window boarding card stated 12 noon, so we were marshalled into that que, I had hoped to get on the 10am sailing.
Dunkerque port was very busy and ships were running around 30 minutes behind schedule, then one of the DFDS staff came over to us, and waved us on to the 10am ferry, I noticed that he stopped the French car behind me, who had tried to follow me onto the Ferry, maybe we were just lucky, or there may have been a bit of selective boarding going on from the DFDS staff who knows.
So big thanks to DFDS for making both outward and inward crossings a pleasant experience for us.

Latest Information, but nothing yet on DFDS website.
MyFerryLink – Communiqué issued by the Office of the Minister of State for Transport, Marine Affairs and Fisheries
Paris, 27 July 2015
Alain Vidalies, Minister of State for Transport, Marine Affairs and Fisheries, today convened representatives of the Maritime Nord union and the management of Eurotunnel and DFDS for a new round table on MyFerryLink.
Today’s meeting provided an opportunity for those involved to look closely at the comprehensive draft proposal for overcoming the crisis proposed by the government on 22 July.
The discussion went ahead in a constructive spirit. The negotiations were suspended so that each of the parties could give its view on the new proposals that have emerged during the debate. A new round table is planned at 3.00 p.m. on Thursday 30 July.
It was also confirmed that DFDS would resume its normal activity from the port of Calais as from tomorrow morning, Tuesday 28 July./.
