Have been to the Loire Valley between Saumur and Blois dozens of times and never heard of the place - it doesn't merit an entry in the Michelin guide to the Loire and the is very little about it on the internet. It is close to the vineyards of Bourgueil and St Nicholas de Bourgueil both of which produce a decent red wine and Saumur which has one of the lesser chateau and is home to the Cadre Noir - the French National Riding School. Saumur is also home to producers of a decent and inexpensive sparkling wine, and also a centre for mushroom growing in the limestone caves in the area.
If you want to go to that part of the world I'd recommend using the Municipal Le Sabot at Azay le Ridieau which is an excellent base for visiting the area.
Their are 4 sites referred to in CC Camping Europe so it must have something going for it and it is conveniently
situated for a festival I wish to visit. But thank you for your reply.
We heve dozens of discussions about the best places to camp in the Loire every year and I can't recall Verantes being mentioned in the 5 years I've been on here. There isn't anything at Verantes in the Camp Site search on this website. A google search for Verantes camping draws a blank.
I suspect CC Camping Europe might be wrong.
Try the camp site search on here to find something in the vicinity.

It's practically walking distance from Le Chant d'Oiseau, whose British owner used to post here a lot. I think quite a few regulars here have stayed there, but I haven't seen him post for a while. A great little site though, by all accounts.
La Grande Pature is actually in Vernantes and has a couple of good reviews on different sites. And there are several other sites in the vicinity. If you go to Google maps and enter 'camping near Vernantes' without quotes you'll be able to see them.
Can't see any festival locally.
I'm all in favour of going off piste. I do try to find reviews for sites just in case, but I don't exactly make a habit of going to what seem like the same 15 sites that crop up here regularly. France has more than 10,000 sites and most of them are pretty good if they're the kind of place you want to go, or in the place you want to go.
Let me know how you get on!

There is a well kept municipal campsite between Vernantes and Vernoil le Fourrier. The distance between these 2 villages is only around 500 metres and if you go into google maps you will see it just behind the municipal tennis courts near the Super U. Both villages are typical sleepy French villages and both have cafe's and small shops. Our caravan was sited on private land at Parcay Les Pins for several years and the Super U was our nearest supermarket. We have visited both villages many times over the years and know the area well if you have any questions
