Hi,
Having done this route several times we are fairly happy that in a weeks time when we cross to France that we will eventually get on to a train and off on our journey to Spain.
Delays are inevitable at some point along the way and we have factored that in to our journey but the new concern now is the ferry workers setting fire to the A16!
Does anyone have any information about delays once you have reached France and have disembarked at the Eurotunnell?
I had heard that the ferry workers were causing delays to and from the port not the tunnell but just wondered if anyone had any updates on the situation.
Seems it's a b*gger trying to get to the Chunnel and a b*gger to get out!

From what I've read it appears to be the port rather that the tunnel that's affected by this latest action by the French ferry workers.

First link I've ever done so hope it works!

Thanks for the link it worked perfectly!
Well that looks like we can get on our way South unless things change so we shall have to keep our fingers crossed that things calm down and not escalate!
Thanks again

Hi Lyanabint,
If you look at the link it shows the ferry workers setting tyres on fire on the French site not Kent.
You have enough to deal with coping with operation stack without fires!

We came over to France via Eurotunnel on Sunday 5th August and apart from a half hour delay at the tunnel, it was one of easiest journeys we have done. We travelled on the A16 From Calais to Paris. We didn't see any immigrants and we sailed through check in at Folkestone. It took us 3 hours which incl a lunch break. The motorway was virtually empty

We went out to France on the Chunnel three weeks ago tomorrow, no problems. Came back to the UK last Saturday, no problems again.

Hi Val - The burning of the tyres you referred to in an earlier post was at the Port not the tunnel

The Channel Tunnel operator is threatening to sue the Government for as much as £200m if ministers decide to shut down overnight services amid the migrant crisis.

Eurotunnel says closing the service at night would result in significant losses and accused British ministers of "sowing panic among customers and investors", according to The Daily Telegraph and The Times.

Company president Jacques Gounon reportedly wrote a letter to Christopher Irwin, the head of the UK delegation to the Channel Tunnel Intergovernmental Commission, threatening to seek compensation.

War Translator 'Was Used' By UK
"Under the concession agreement Eurotunnel would be obliged to claim for losses which we estimate could easily attain the level of circa £200m per year," the letter reportedly said.

"Any significant reduction in overnight services through the Channel Tunnel would have a grave impact not only on the concession holder but also on the UK economy.

Man Walks Almost Entire Tunnel
"We believe it would be far better for resources to be focused on resolving the 'Calais crisis' rather than sowing panic amongst customers and investors and, ultimately, damaging the economy."

Thousands of migrants have attempted to sneak over the fence along the train tracks at Calais leading to the tunnel and ultimately to Britain.

At least nine people have died, and a Sudanese man walked almost the entire length of the Channel Tunnel - 31 miles - before being arrested.

In the most recent case of breached security, a group of 30 migrants walked inside a security zone at the Coquelles Channel Tunnel terminal after guessing the security code, the Telegraph said.

PM: There Is More Work To Do
They were apparently able to guess the code by examining which numbers were dirtiest or most worn on the keypad.

The Government has promised to boost security in Calais by sending additional security guards, sniffer dogs, fences and surveillance equipment including more CCTV to tackle the crisis.

It is also reportedly considering a closure of the tunnel at night.

An Evil Trader In Human Misery
In the UK, hauliers have also condemned any possible night closure of the tunnel, according to the Financial Times.

Donald Armour, of the Freight Transport Association, told the newspaper: "I think if this was to go ahead it just shows again that the government is not thinking about the freight side of the business.

"They are just concerned about UK security."

The FT said that 2.5 million vehicles transport UK goods worth £200bn every year between Calais and Dover.
