Hi guys n gals, need a good place to stopover in France for 1 night only.

On the way to Spain to set up permanently, but don't wanna do the drive all in one go.

I have a Rexhall Rolls Air, it is approx 32' long. (It's a biggun!)

Thanks, much appreciated!

Tony

A motorway services truck park will do you, otherwise pull into a town an stop on a supermarket carpark.

it would help to know which route you intend to travel on, so some one can look up and tell you some places

Because of the speed limit for your vehicle I suspect that you will need at least two overnight stops . Depending on where you are going it is at least 800 miles. You just need to consider whether or not you feel driving 400 miles in a day is safe.

As wineciccio indicates. Sort out your route, this will depend on where in Spain you're heading for.
Then seriously consider DaveS1's comments. Then I'm sure folk will come up with plenty of suggestions.

Thanks all! Very helpful, very much appreciated.

Wineciccio:

I am landing in Dieppe on the morning (approx 4am) of Mon 24th and travelling down through Rouen, Orleans, Clermont Ferrand, Perpignon and on to Benidorm - someone else on the forum indicated that this route would be relatively toll-free!

I appreciate the comments about the distance and will gladly take in=t all on board, you all have vastly more experience than me - and also it's not like I'm exactly in a hurry to get there, I'm not exactly working to a timetable.

Thanks again all!

sirrahna

You must stop at Millau to take in the splendour of the viaduct. If you don't want to spend a night here go on to the service area before crossing and view from the viewpoint. Excellent, and for a first time crossing it's worth paying the toll. Remember though the better view is from the viewpoint.

There's no problem doing 400 miles in a day, particularly in France. However, if you do have enough time to spare my inclination would be to take several days and stop off in a few places on the way down as France is too nice a country to just rush through.

If you want to do 400 miles from Dieppe on the first day that takes you to Issoire, just south of Clermont Ferrand .

The site there, Camping du Mas, is big and spacious, and looks to me as though it could take a 32 foot motor home, but they are grass pitches and the weight of the vehicle might be as much of a problem as the length.

So perhaps better to look at motorhome Aires rather than campsites?

All good info, thanks folks!

Good call Berriow, think you may have a point there, especially since the forecast for the next couple weeks is for various amounts of rain!
Anyone know any good Aires in these same areas - especially around Clermont Ferrand, as I think I may probably do 400 mls (ish)

I would still question the advisability of driving 400 miles in a day.
The speed limit for your vehicle is 68 mph. Using that as an average speed you will be driving 6 hours non stop -- no breaks, no food.
Good luck to you if you can do that safely but what is the rush?
Why not take your time, view some of the French countryside and arrive reasonably refreshed.

Aire de Service des Volcans d'Auvergne about 20 min north of clermont stopped for a night last sat and will be there again in a week. Google earth the place, quiet parking away from main building.

Just had alook at the Volcans Aire on Google Earth. What a massive place. Must have catered for a need. Does the place ever get full in high season? How was it last Sat Adrian?
