Having just stayed near Mount St Michel in July we booked next year whilst there as the 2016 tour will be starting from the Mount and we loved the site and area (Haliotis in Pontorson).

We have generally been in France during the tour for the past few years but without actively seaking it out. This year I noticed Carefour supermarkets selling tour T shirt's and the like. Are these "official" or are they fairly generic items like the stuff we get in Aldi etc when there is a major football thing going on like the Wold Cup? The reason I'm asking is I'd like an official T shirt to mark the event but wonder if it is cheaper to buy one whilst in France than order one online? We will arrive on the Wednesday before the tour starts on Saturday so will have time to shop for one if required.

Carrefour is an official sponsor (Polka dot jersey/KOM) so do sell official merchandise.

This year I picked up a couple of official T shirts in a sports shop on Alpe d'Huez, also found an official T shirt in Intermarche.
Look for a yellow label with the logo on!

You do get merchandising vans some selling official stuff ahead of the race, but this year they didn't stop one day as the publicity caravan was running late and shot through and they didn't come up the Alpe.

Above all, enjoy it, it's a fabulous day out whether a mad fan (like me!) or a curious bystander! Just watch for road closures and 'jobs worth' Gendarme!!

If you're interested, I have loads of TdF photos here.... https://www.flickr.com/photos/standen_photos/sets

Thanks very much for that. Stupid of me not to remember Carrefour is a major sponsor.

Fingers crossed I will see something this time. We were in Leeds for the Depart in 2014 but got there so late (I blame Northern Trains for not laying on enough extra trains) that all the good view points were taken and I didn't see a thing!

That is certainly some photo collection it will take me some time to view it all.

I think less said about the train service that weekend in Yorkshire the better!

Check the route and road closures (can be earlier than stated)and enjoy the day. We have made lasting friendships on the roadside and had great banter with other fans.....especially the Aussies!
