Yes, I was aware of needing 2 vignettes, 1 for the car and 1 for the caravan but thought I'd get them on entering Switzerland as I understand you can get them at the border. Is this right or should I get them in advance?

Hi bobcat10, in contrast to your Provence experience, we returned to a delightful 3 Star campsite with no animations whatsoever.

Just 80 touring pith's on the campsite, ours was 10m x 13m, with a lovely hedge either side, the front of our Tent opened out to a huge field of sun flower plants.

Swimming pool was to die for, with no slides or anything like that, totally unsupervised.

We found the area cheaper than back home, we had two restaurant evening meals out, during our 15 nights, 45€ and 35€ respectively.

Food shopping was cheap as chips, at Geant etc, and we actually spent less on food than we do at home.

We enjoyed it so much we are going back, June/July next year, at £58 per week inc Electric, it would be rude not to!

Any advice on where to get vignettes in advance? I looked on the Swiss Travel website and it would cost £32 for a CHF40 vignette, which at current exchange rates is £26.25p. Quite a mark up!

Sorry can't help with buying in advance, but if you are going into Switzerland from the Rhine valley route at Basel we found you could buy vignettes there at the border very easily without a delay - paying in Euros if you wish, although we just used a bank card and paid in Swiss francs.

The main highway divides into two clearly signposted lanes marked overhead for those with and without vignettes already.

Bofs - unless you've been before be aware you'll need to purchase a 'Vignette' to travel on Swiss roads.

the vignette is only for motorways and semi motorways, use normal roads and you don't need one. if entering at basel come off m,way at weil am rhein and cross there. crossed there over 20 odd times now never been asked abut vignette, in fact half the time the post is deserted!

Damn those tykes and their "God's Own County" rubbish

P&O tell me they'll be opening bookings around about Oct/Nov for 2016 H>Z and return.

And I'll be on it like a tramp on a kipper.

Just about to book a concrete tent for Lake Como and an eastern crossing will work well for that.

Just for your info you can now book over the phone for next year (I asked and it's only £5 more than booking online which isn't available yet for 2016).

2 more sleeps and we'll be on the way to Eden once again.

We have been watching the forecast like hawks....not great, but I guess the cloudy days give me an excuse to head inland to Bordeaux to buy my 'cat sitter' a gift.

Unlike other trips in recent years this is not a sightseeing trip, more a 'get fitter' trip. So eat sensibly, get back into the routine of an hour run each morning and plenty of cycling through the day. THe main activity will be kayaking. We bought a double...and no we have never kayaked as a double. We have only kayaked in singles. So this should be fun. Robert has bought all sorts of gadgets for hi 'go-pro', so there is a strong possibility that pics may appear on facebook.

On the way back we plan to call in and see one of his old colleagues who is now an instructor at Le Mans. So that will be nice for him (not my scene at all). I appreciate pretty cars but I have no desire to drive one.

Reviving an oldish thread.
Have just book the crossing and cabins via C&CC.
Now need to pre-book meals to save a bit more.
Has anyone done this? How?
