Does anyone have a recommendation for a quietish site in the Vendee with a beach within walking distance (I know it's a tall order) - I've looked at the reviews of sites in Brem and Bretignolles but some are not very recent. We're going on the tunnel on Wednesday and will stop off for an overnighter. Thanks!

We have been to Camping La Foret between St Jean De Monts and the much quieter Notre Dame de Monts.
Its a quiet site with no organised day or night entertainment of around 60 pitches maybe 300m walk from sandy beach at Pont de Yeu(?) end of town.
Highly recommend this site but you may need to book as many year on year returnees
Are you sure you want to be in the Vendee if hoping for a bit of peace & quiet?
I would have thought either a bit further South towards Bordeaux, or North a bit towards Vannes would be a much better bet - with the same sort of coastline but fewer tourists.
------------- Camping Gear expands so as to fill the space available for its transportation.

When are you wanting to go, it will automatically be quiet at the end of August and into September, if peak season then i would go inland or try somewhere like Les Dunes at Longeville, although never stayed there but in a good location and fairly small.
If going out of peak weeks Camping ocean Dor is lovely
Camping la foret looks ideal but according to the website is full for this coming weekend - I will email them just to be sure though, so thanks for this! I appreciate that the Vendee sites are going to be busy at the tail end of the high season but although there are just the two of us we are still tied to school holidays but want a sea blast and the meteo says this area is a couple of degrees warmer next week than Brittany. And now we have a campervan we don't want to keep getting in it for the first few days of the holiday but just crash out so a beach within walking distance is ideal. I would much rather take our holidays out of school holiday time but it's not possible. So, please keep any site recommendations coming in & thanks!
Les Charmes just outside Apremont is a lovely site just outside a very pretty town with its own old castle. Apremont is on La Vie & has a bathing lake with beach. The lake swimming is excellent, (I was there on Saturday), but 20 minutes away is St Gilles Croix de Ville, with all that the seaside has to offer.
Hope this idea helps!
Can recommend La Grande Vallee at La Tranche sur Mer small pleasant site within walking distance of the sea.Was there in June and will call again in Septmber.
Thanks for all your help - the plan now is to stop off at les Andelys tomorrow night, a couple of days at Azay le Rideau and then a few days on the Vendee coast when hopefully it will be a little bit quieter. We shall see how this works out!
Just back now and pleased we did our trip this way round - we ended up in Notre Dame de Monts after a stay in Azay and could walk to the beach. it was great cycling country and had quietened down quite a lot. But the weather was changeable to say the least!
