Hi all,
Can anyone recommend a site if we travel to Santander/Biblo. WE are a family of 4... 2 boys 10 & 17 so need something to keep them busy in the day. We want to be right on the beach or near the beach but somewhere we can walk to for meals / drinks and generally so we dont go stir crazy a bit of entertainment would be great. We did Playa Joel a few years ago and whilst it was lovely we feel other camp sites must be as good/better. We are happy to drive 2/3 hours either south france / spain. Any help would be appreciated.

This is a trip we are thinking of in the next couple of years, we have been looking and on the coast just along from Santander there was only really the site you mentioned. I would be interested if anyone has any suggestions too. It is not an area we have done before. The weather at Playa de Joel is not enticing me to stay for 2 weeks, not sure it's hot enough! Though Noja looks lovely as does the site.

why not get boat to santander and drive across to other coast better weather and more choice ?

Last time we crossed to Bilbao, we headed straight down to the algarve through central Spain on a bike with a 2 man tent and a wife!

Seriously though if you're not desperate for the beach, head to the costa de Europa's absolutely beautiful with a good few camp sites.

Why drive to other parts of Spain when the north coast offers such fantastic variety and holidays? We've been there for with years .... not consecutive ... now. It's a beautiful and very rewarding area.

Depending where you live in UK also do the maths if worth sailing to Santander if then trekking another 500+ miles to other Costas

Calais to Bay of Roses for instance is "only" 750 miles

Bilbao to Roses is still 460 miles+ once you have had your 24 hr ferry

Further south say round the Valencia part of coast it makes more sense as actually closer in mileage terms from Bilbao/Santander

There are some terrific beach resorts not far from Bilbao, such as Zumaia, Getaria and Zarautz which is popular with surfers. I think there may be a campsite there but not sure - sorry. We stayed at a nice little site not far from there, Camping Itxaspe at Itziar. Another site we liked was Camping El Helguero at Ruiloba - again, some lovely beaches nearby.
