Hi. I started a topic on this same subject a little while ago under title of Over wintering in Spain and there were a few suggestions made there. We are planning to leave in November and return at the end of March.

I get the feeling that Spain is going to be very crowded with campervans this year as many people, especially the French will not be crossing over to North African due to potential problems. Judging by the number of vans heading south after Xmas last year it is probably gpoing to be advisable to book sites in advance especially if you want to stay in same place for any period of time.

Generally anywhere south Of Valencia is considered better for warmer days but really depends on what you want to do. We like to go and see different places and no so fussed about beach weather. If you need any specific help on a certain area just send me a mail and I will point you in right direction for research etc.

We are spending a week or so around Perpignan and then going on to Peniscola for probably two to three weeks and will then just take it from there. Talk to other people when you are on a site!!

The Caravan Club's own forum has a lot on the subject, experiences and advice from people there , and several photos of the most unappealing overcrowded parking lots you can imagine. I think you will need to be very selective in where you go.

We tend to avoid most sites in the Caravan Club "Winter Escapes" booklet, especially if they're likely to host rallies, but that's just our preference, as lots of folk love them. Luckily there are plenty of small or medium-sized sites. As Berriow says, be selective, but there really is something for all tastes, even those who prefer a CL-type site.

If you like a lively site with good facilitiies, La Manga is popular, but not far from it is our preferred site in Murcia, Los Madriles at Isla Plana. It's not particularly small but we found it peaceful and scenic, with a fabulous outdoor and indoor pool. Bonterra Park in Benicassim is lively and popular but we prefer the smaller, quieter Ribamar at Alcossebre. Another one we like is El Pino de San Jose, right down at the far south of Spain on the unspoilt Costa de la Luz.

Look at all the reviews and read between the lines! There's information on our various trips to Spain and elsewhere on our blog, www.travelpod.com/members/oldagetraveller.com.

While it is rather interesting that the French Government have put out the communication last year about 'problems' specifically about Morocco and having been there at the time the only 'problems' where the floods that hammered the country and killed so many people, it seems that Morocco will be substantially 'quiet' again this winter!

Having said that if we weren't going to Morocco I would be in preference off to Portugal and not Spain as it is less crowded with some really nice small family run campsites that have a very nice atmosphere for long stay.
