Are you trying for Freesat or Sky, Freesat would be impossible at Barcelona but Sky could be possible.

From Astra2 at 28.2East you should be able to get Sky News and Radio such as LBC from London etc, but that will be just about it, which to be fair is as much TV as you need when on holiday.

Failing that point the Dish to 19.2East, you will defo be able to get Sky News, CNN and BBC World News TV, so better than nowt I guess.

Are you using a Sky Box or Freesat Box, or maybe a FTA Box.

We had problems down at Frejus this year, Freesat worked for a couple of days, then all we got was Sky News and the other none Freesat stuff from Astra2 at 28.2East, using a 1m Dish and Freesat Box.

Come on now, you have no excuse, the SatLink 6906 Satellite Finder you have with it's 3.5" screen will find you a satellite, albiet not the one you wan't, whilst at Barcelona.

The 1m Dish will pull in Astra1 at 19.2 East not much in the way of English stuff just Sky News and a few others.

Also HotBird Eutelsat at 13 East, carries even less English, CNN and just a few others.

Better than nowt though, seen as you have carted the dish all that way.

The strongest satellite signal at Barcelona will be Hispasat 30 West, no English on there apart from BBC World News TV, but plenty of FTA Spanish stuff, but if you find that, you can check that your system is working ok, from there it will be easy to locate Astra1 or HotBird over to the East.

Probably best to forget looking for Astra2 Sky/Freesat at 28.2 East from Barcelona.

Remember your dish has to point up at a much steeper angle than here in the UK, say 36 Deg Elevation or more compared to just 22 Deg here in the UK, it will help if the dish mount is plumb, then you can use the Elevation markings on the dish mount as a rough guide.

I can even get Hispasat here in UK with a 1m Dish.

Hi shielsy.
That's interesting what size Dish are you using, also apart from the Sky subscription channels could you also receive BBC, iTV, Ch4, Ch5 etc.

If it was the Default Transponder settings that you had to change, this would normally imply that you would receive Sky encrypted channels but not the Freesat FTA channels carried on the UK Spot Beam.

Also was this recently or before 2014?

I used my box card from home giving me all the channels I would normally get with exception of HD, I dont subscribe to Sky sports but was able to get some of the movie channels. I was even getting my local news reports. I have a 1m dish. As Francais says the dish angle is virtually verticle. I use the link I sent and as I use the same site I can point dish from memory then fine adjust from there.

That's quite interesting shielsy, if you were getting BBC, iTV, Ch4/5 you must have definitely been in a Hot Spot.

I would have thought any of the above would have been impossible with just a 1m Dish at Barcelona, but that's the nature of out of footprint satellite reception, you never can tell.

Also was this recently or pre April 2014.

Had a look on a few forums shielsy, and no one reports getting the Spot Beam channels at Barcelona, so that is quite amazing if you did get BBC/iTV and the other Freesat channels with that 1m Dish.

All though as I mentioned before, there are always exceptions to the rule, when receiving out of footprint.

Francais. I went into the loft to check what dish I have. It's 1.5m and yes it was summer 2013 the last time I used it in Spain. I have just read about the south beam being switched off. Guess I will leave all that at home and sign up for Xpat TV as there is canny wifi where Im staying. I might still take it to see what I can get. Cheers

Yep, thanks for confirming that shielsy, 2013 explains a lot, different story of course since March 2014.

As for Xpat TV if it's anything like FilmOn, then I would not bother.

I think for watching either Sky, Freesat or Freeview even, the best current solution for Spain is to use a UK based SlingBox, so that you can access via the interweb.

Yep, RDS123, but are you getting the Spot Beam channels like BBC/iTV Ch4 and Ch5, if so you are doing very well with a 1m Dish, I would have thought at least 1.2m if at all from Barcelona, but as ever out of footprint reception is always a hit and miss affair.

July 2014 at Frejus, our 1m Dish worked fine for Freesat, but this July same campsite, same pitch, the signal was less, we had Freesat for a couple of days, but mostly it was just Sky News, and the other none Spot Beam channels from Astra2.

For us not getting the Spot Beam channels was not an issue, as we were still getting the TV News, and some of the UK radio channels, and we have plenty of recorded stuff on the satellite receiver, which is always handy.
