We are thinking of the Ardeche next summer and seen this site in the Franceloc brochure. Has anyone been if so what are the pitches like as we've checked out a few Franceloc sites here and they seem more geared up for statics. We like action packed sites with water slides and good pool complex. We're going further South next year as the weather in the Vendée has changed this week it's not been great since Sunday night.

There are reviews on Zoover, which give it an average score of 6.8 (which isn't good in my books).  Most of the reviews are in Dutch and French - you have to look at all reviews not just the 4 UK ones.  It's also away from the Ardeche river, up on top of the plateau, and for us the river was one of the highlights of a holiday in that area.  I said in response to another post, that sites in the Ardeche aren't heavy on waterslides because most people use the river for their water-based activities, and for us it was much more fun body-boarding on those cheap polystyrene boards, from the site down to the Pont D'Arc and towing a picnic with us!

I've seen Le Pommierhttp://www.campinglepommier.com/en/aquapark/ which looks to have a fab waterpark. We passed it on our way to Ranc Davaine last year and the park looked great, not looked at reviews for it but it could be an option

Hi Val.
I'm taking your advice and trying somewhere new next year plus were in the Vendée and the weather's been great up to Sunday night then we've had 3 cloudy unsettled days and alot of rain overnight. I'm happiest on the river as we love the Dordogne and the Ardeche is next on my list to try plus it's further down so hopefully better weather than the vendee? I'd prefer to be close to the river if we could find a site like soleil plage we'd be happy but we don't mind travel g out to the river if we have to.

L'Ardechois is very like SP, I think, just without the slides (but not as though the slides at SP are big), and the entertainment is smaller scale (pretty iffy actually), but on the plus, the sanitaires are A1.

I'd agree with Trekkin Tekkie - we've stayed at L'Ardechois, and Soleil Plage, and I'd compare the two. My vote would be in favour of L'Ardechois, out of the two, but that was probably because we went there a lot when our children were very small and they loved the site. They loved the river, the organised activities (we were taken to a very special cave which has now become famous) and the entertainment. In those days (too long ago to mention) the children did a weekly show and the days leading up to the show were practice days where they learned circus skills, magic tricks, and so on. My sons thought it was the most brilliant thing they'd ever done (and both still have a lot of 'circus skills' such as juggling, Diablo spinning, plate spinning plates, and can do 'magic' all of which they learned at L'Ardechois! It now comes in very handy on stag nights!

We've been back to both without children, and in low season, and still love them both!

Hi
Thanks for the above we have a lot of thinking to do for next year. We have returned from the Vendee this evening and had another fantastic time, weather was great the first week then we had a few cloudy days and a lot of rain/storms the second week but it didn't spoil our holiday.
The planning and research is the fun bit and thanks to everyone on here I have gained a lot of knowledge and we love our yearly trip to France.
Very tired now so hopefully a good nights kip in our own beds and a cool bedroom after roasting hot weather in the van!!

We have just returned from L'ardechios. It was fab, site is better than soliel plage but just missing a slide but my 7 year old daughter didn't miss it. Weather was fab. One day of rain out of 10 nights. You can walk to vallon pont darc from the site.

What was the journey like getting there? Im worried about towing a twin axle caravan on those roads!! Im a very nervous passenger when we are towing I hate it!! Someone told me at Caen that the roads are scary which has put me off abit!! That site looks lovely, I really fancy it but OH wants water slides for the girls which doesn't bother me but they are used to going to sites with them on.

Cheryl, val advised me correct to co via the d4. We have a twin axle and it was fine however someone moved the barrier that is normally there and we missed the sign on entering vallon and went through the town! Some French woman came out and shouted at us as we did block the town for about 5 mins.🙈 we did the journey back through as a trial and saw where we went went wrong and our journey home was uneventful. It is a beautiful place and we are very likely to be going back again irrespective of the lack of slides.👍

Oh eck that's one of my biggest fears!! Im really not good towing I hate it, iv never liked it but im getting worse in my old age and that's what really scares me about going to different areas, I was fine in the Dordogne and love Soleil Plage and those roads didn't bother me as much as I thought. Time is a big factor for us too we only have 2 weeks and I don't want to spend it sitting in a car for days. We are going to Lanzarote for Easter next year for an easy 2 weeks all inclusive and I even hate flying!! Not much hope for me eh?? Its a definite No No is theres not slide, it has to have at least 2 on or they wont entertain it. I still love SP its one of my fave sites along with Les Brunnelles, id go back there in a shot and love the Vendee too.

The roads aren't at all scary. If anyone's going to L'Ardechois, or anywhere in the southern part of the Ardeche, then apart from driving along the Gorge de l'Ardeche itself, which you wouldn't do with a caravan, you should be fine.

If anyone is really worried then email me at valdaathome at gmail.com and I'll put you on the right road. We've been down that way many many times over the years, using a variety of routes, and never had a problem, towing and otherwise.

Ranc Davaine which is in the Ardeche at St-Alban-Auriolles has some slides, a water flume, and indoor and outdoor pools. It's also next to the Chassezac river, which is good for 'messing about in' but not quite as good as the river at L'Ardechois. Pitches are 'informal' and set in woodland, so may not be good for a twin axle.
