I am getting truly fed up of French campsites saying they have 'heated' pools and then finding water that gives you a headache when you jump in! Every year we think the kids (aged 7) will progress in their swimming and general water happiness but we always seem to go back a step as the water is soooo cold! Has anyone found a Vendeen site with a swimming pool that has comfortable water!? We don't sit around the pool all day warming up so we need a pool with a decent shallow end and water that doesn't take your breath away when you just pop in. So far we have been to Les Ecureuils in St Hilaire and Camping du Jard in La Tranche.

We have been to la Garangeoire twice and found their pool to be a nice temperature, although they also have a covered pool which us even warmer, and a shallow kids pool on one side of a walkway bridge.
The kids noticed how warm the main pool was when they went to the weekly pool party - swimming until 10pm!
We are currently on one of the indigo sites on ile d'oleron (les pins), and they have two pools.
The smaller round pool 1.2m deep is not heated, but the larger pool 1.5m deep is heated and whilst not very warm, it is quite a good temp to just stand in it for half hour...plus the kids zip between the two pools to appreciate the warmer of the two.

Our favourite site in the Vendee is Camping Bel in La Tranche sur Mer. There are no slides, it is a very family orientated site and aimed at families with younger children. My teenagers have outgrown it. There is a children's film shown every evening in the outdoor cinema (free) you can sit outside and have a drink from the bar or take your and watch your children whilst not actually having to sit and watch the film if you don't want to! When the film finishes the campsite starts to close everything for the evening, bar, laundrette the works. The pool is a little hit and miss. It is heated and I think some days it feels warmer or cooler dependent on the air temperature. La Tranche sur Mer is a great resort for family holidays with some great beaches. A word of caution never try Super U on a Sunday morning! I have been in a trolley jam in the aisles where for several minutes it was not possible to move in any direction - horrendous!

Just back from La Garangeoire, pool temp was best I have found so far in France. I am v sensitive to cold but I enjoyed the pool at La G. The covered pool is a bit colder not being exposed to the sun.
Thanks everyone. La Garangeoire looks lovely! I've never considered it before as we like to be able to walk to the beach, but it looks worth the sacrifice!

Have been to Bel for 8 of the last 10 yrs and whilst I agree that the site is great
The owner never sees the need to spends a cent on heating the pool as its full even in the rain !

Hi
We have just returned from the Vendee and stayed on what we consider to be the two best sites! Oceano d'or pool was lovely and warm and has a great new indoor kiddies pool section and the main pool was lovely and warm, then we moved to camping club Les Brunnelles which also was heated and felt lovely and warm, I went in both pools and im soft, it has to be warm for me to go in them!! Brunnelles has a fab pool complex and you can use camping cheques from 23rd August onwards. We did 6 nights on Oceano and 7 on Brunnelles, both sites are fab and the area is stunning.
