Can anyone recommend any campsites in the south of France or Northern Spain that are open in the Autumn / Winter period. I hope to visit at the end of October and beginning of November, but a lot of them seem to close by then.

Mike, if you go to CampSite Search on here you can ask for sites open all year,, but for your October, November visit there are actually going to be more than that. So have a look in your ACSI site guide, or on their website, for the dates and particular places you want. There will be some., but I don't know exactly where you want to go as South of France to Northern Spain is a 400 mile spread. Good luck with it.
I guess by northern Spain you mean upper end of Med coast not Atlantic? Vilanova Park just south of Barcelona is open all yr, not cheap even in low season but Spanish coastal campsites are always fairly expensive ime.
According to website low season rate for standard pitch is 30.65€pn, stay 21 nights and pay for 14 which works out at 20.43€pn, so depends on how long you want to stay. Off season discounts for long stay are usual.
Vilanova is actually 16 euros, using the ACSI Card and that includes a pitch, two adults, car and caravan, (or motorhome, tent, campervan, folding camper), awning, electricity and one dog during the following periods:
01/01 - 05/07 and then again from 25/08 - 31/12 - so definitely worth getting the ACSI Card. See www.campingcard.co.uk).
I think you can still buy them in the Dutch language - but they are also available from some campsite reception desks.
You can get the English version from the camping and caravanning club, not sure if you have to be a member though, got mine a couple of weeks ago and head off end of October for a few months
