After my very successful post the other day, I am now asking for suggestions for family campsites in Biarritz! We'd like a good size pitch with decent facilities...oh and can anyone give me an idea of how the weather fares in August? Thank you all xx

Check out the Yelloh Village Ilbarritz, in Bidart, it has various sizes of pitches for tents and caravans. It does have a very steep road in the site but it is close to a large supermarket, all the beautiful beaches and Biarritz itself.

I go that way frequently to visit family and the weather is usually hot and fairly dry.

Average rainfall total for La Rochelle in August is 30mm. , but down at Biarritz in August it is 80 mm.

Why? Because Biarritz is at the foot of the mountains .

Hi
We stayed slightly out of Biarritz at labenne Ocean which wAs fantastic - there was s freak accident there this year which although obviously tragic was a freak accident and unlikely to be ever repeated.
Biarritz is lovely but other resorts such as St Jean de luz and hendaye should not be overlooked .
Weather when we were there was hot but it is the bay of biscayvand near mountains so some very heavy but short downpours are to be expected

-------------
It's only an expensive hobby when it's parked on your Drive....use it, love it , live it.

Just read the story, thats very tragic.

The beaches in St Jean and Hendaye tend to be much safer for young children. St Jean is very sheltered but the last time we were there in August the traffic was hideous.

Hendaye is more exposed but the tide goes out a long way and shelves gently into the sea. So there's lots of paddling and swimming opportunities. I used to stick my pre schoolers on a bodyboard and they got a long ride in very shallow water. Then as the tide comes in the surfers arrive. From Hendaye you can get a little ferry across the estuary to the Spainish side which is nice in the evening.

My family said the weather was pretty bad this summer compared to what they were used to.
