After doing the vendee the last couple of years we would now like to try the Dordogne region.the kids are a bit older and travel better so driving down in one hit from Caen won't be an issue.
The type of sites we like are ones with big grassy pitches and not all hemmed in on all sides by other pitches, a bit like La Guyonniere in the vendees. We don't mind entertainment but not so much all singing and dancing full on commercial sites like pin parasol was.
A play park is a bit of a must along with a pool if possible.
We would also like to be able to go into a town in the evening for a meal or bar and people watching etc without driving and don't mind a walk or cycle to get there.
The kids will be 8 and 11 and wondered what people did for days out with theirs in the area ?
To give an idea of how we are as a family this year we did the beach a fair bit, grand defi , cycled and meals out.
Up for a bit of exploring by canoe and visiting interesting towns and markets.
So ukcampsiters what do you recommend to help narrow down our search through the seemingly endless amount of sites in the dordogne region ?
Thanks in advance for any tips you may have.

Le Capeyrou ticks all your boxes, scores 9/10 on reviews here, and is right by the river. 5 minute walk into Beynac, with a choice of restaurants to suit all price points.
Canoe firms pick up from the site. Great base to explore the area, including the cliff top bastides and chateaux and Sarlat market, and further afield, Bergerac, and even Bordeaux.
Enjoy the search and the planning.

My advice is worth no more than the price paid for it
We've done several sites in the Dordogne area (see out reviews) ... in July/August we prefer to be away from the central Dordogne area, which can be very crowded ... hence Beaulieu and Creysse ... but it is all a very pretty area.
the Lot is a bit further south, much less crowded, but equally rewarding.
