Hi
Has anyone taken their Caravan to Jersey? (Yes I know it's not abroad, but this seemed the appropriate section) We are considering it for next year but I wonder if others have any experience and tips to pass on. I have seen the various restrictions on size etc on the island, and that you need a permit.
One thing was I looked on Condor Ferries site and they say you can only take one gas bottle, max 5kg. Most caravans I'm sure are like us with a 6kg propane bottle so is this a likely problem, do they check. All advice welcomed.

Be interesting so see the replies, as it`s something I`ve fancied for a while but been put off by the extortionate Condor charges.
We nearly had few days there in September without the van, but Condor wanted nearly £700.00 for a car + 2 passengers (return). I only wanted to buy a ticket, not the ferry...
Love your answer Juan, that would be my late dad's sort of reply!

We went last year, and thats double what i paid for a car and 2 people..wow
I stayed in a hotel, but noticed there was a caravan site, so im assuming you can get to it. but alot of the roads are quite tight and some single track off the main roads
I assume you would be ok getting to the site, i would say give them a ring and find out what the score is

I seem to remember that if you take a Caravan to Jersey that you have to drive to your site and stay there.
The roads are very narrow and don't lend themselves to travelling about with a 'van
When the Jersey authorities (States?) first started allowing Caravans, the CC and the C&CC got terribly excited and organised special tours as Caravans were restricted to a couple of dates only
I'd check the ferry costs first as, I believe, that Condor is not cheap
We've just come back from Jersey with a motorhome but we did see caravans on our site. Daisy Cottage. They will arrange your permit. Youy are only allowed to take your caravan to a site and back to the port when leaving. You can use your car the rest of the week. We had to use public transport although we could have used our motorhome but had to get back to the site at night. We came from st malo as we're already in france. It cost us €442 which is a lot but hey wer can't take it with us. The site cost £161 for the week but you do get 10% off if caravan club members. Very basic site.open all year but very friendly staff.
Can I ask if you did book Jersey at all? We've been looking at it for next year (like to plan!) but the ferry cost seems extortionate with a caravan. Not sure if it is cheaper the earlier you book.
It sounds very restrictive to me to be met as you come off the ferry and taken under escort to a single caravan site. Might it be better to fly over and rent a cottage?
Gave up in the end. With ferry costs etc a hotel or Self Catering Accommodation would be easier / cheaper it seems.

Strangely enough, in France at the mo and the couple next to us on site are from Jersey. They said they would never consider Jersey as the couple of sites there are not up to much.

I have been to Jersey for a daytrip and badly wanted to return because I liked it very much. So I made some inquiries on campsites and that's what I found out too. Even if I had been able to afford the ferry with a caravan, I doubt if it had been good value for money.
