We are considering spending the winter in Spain or Portugal. We will take our dog and would not want to leave him in the car on a ferry. So eurotunnel seems the best option for us. However I have read that gas bottles are not permitted?? How could that work? I know that there may be some ferry companies that allow dogs on board - I need to do some homework! Cost is an issue as we are OAPs! We are considering joining in on a C & C club rally anyone tried that please??

Gas bottles are allowed on eurotunnel,up to 47KG in a single bottle or 50kg in multiple bottles.
LPG powered vehicles aren't allowed.

I think you will find that they check to see the bottles are turned off. Many caravans and motorhomes use the tunnel, I am sure some kind person will confirm.

We prefer the ferries, they do allow dogs. You have to tell them when checking in so they can do the paperwork.

Thank you. I do know dogs are permitted on the ferry but I would want to keep my dog with me or in a kennel , not left in the car.

Brittany ferries have kennels both to France and Spain, there are also pet friendly cabins on the Cap Finistre which goes from Portsmouth to Bilbao.

We have crossed with gas bottles, no one checked they were turned off but they did ask us to make sure we so before we boarded the train.

Not joined a C&CC rally there but have been on sites where they take place. They just book part of the site, you can take join in with their trips, games, nights out as much or as little as you want.

If you read many of the reviews on the bigger Spanish and Portuguese sites you will see they offer some very good rates the longer you stay.

We have done two winters in Portugal, weather often not quite as good as Spain but we prefer the area. There are literally thousands of motorhomes in both countries enjoying the winter sun so you wont ever be alone :)

As has been said. You can take gas bottles, all the info you need is on the Eurotunnel website, which i'd recommmemd looking at.
Our gas bottles were checked both on the outward journey and the return this year. Never been checked on previous years.

We had gas bottles in our front locker. They were checked both outbound and inbound to make sure they were switched off. It took less than a minute.

Thank you for your replies, now to find some good sites - we usually use CL sites in UK. Both for the peace & quiet and the price! OAPs!
