You'll find pitches at Azay are at least 10m x 10m - some are a lot more generous - I've seen motorhomes almost as big as a single decker bus on some.
Every time we've been (a good dozen times including July / August) we've been able to choose our own pitch. The biggest are mainly along the lanes to the left from where you enter the site towards the far toilet block.
Thanks for posting your question kjd and everyone who has answered. I'm also thinking of France for next year and would love to be able to walk to local village too. I have found this municipal sites webpage which looks useful.
What I can't figure out is how to find what dates the ACSI card will be accepted at various sites. Is it just me or are the 2016 dates not available yet? I'd like to have a good idea of the costs before I commit to buying ferry tickets! I really fancy Le Capeyrou if I can convince my husband to drive that far!!!
------------- Excitedly making camping plans for this year.... just can't make up my mind at the moment!
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Poppy, you will only find the actual 'discount' dates when you have the book in your hand, every site is different.
However, before mid July and after the end of August is the main off peak season when sites in the discount scheme will be available.

The 2016 books will not be despatched until December 2015.
