apart from the obvious lake and town we have a week next may/june and wondered if there are any must see or do we are about a mile from the lake i think near doussard ??

Hi Steve there is plenty to do , Chamonix is about a 90 minute drive,and worth a visit ,Col de Forclaz which is Eastern side of the Lake only 30 min drive away is a must for the views particularly at sun set ,Semnoz is good and has a summer luge which is fun ,Annecy Sunday market is a must

Hi,
We were there this summer for 5 nights.
I'd recommend the following:
http://www.gorgesdufier.com/en/visit.html - about 20 min drive from Annecy

Drive up Semmoz and try the luge which is a mile or so from the summit

Visit CERN where the particle accelerator is located in Geneva - you can book a free visit here https://outreach.web.cern.ch/outreach/visites/individuelle.html Note you can only book 15 days in advance and they fill quickly however some places are made available 3 days prior which we managed to book while in Annecy.

After/Before visiting CERN go to Geneva for a walk around. Be careful when visiting CERN/GENEVA - if you use the Swiss motorway you need to buy an annual vignette which is expensive. Fortunately if you do find yourself at the start of the motorway where they filter you into lanes to buy/check vignettes there is a u-turn you can make.

Drive high to the Lac des Confins up above La Clusaz, and after a walk have lunch at the Chalet du Lac. Their tartiflette is good - no, we didn't know what it was either, so we ordered it, and now we have the recipe.

Chamonix and the Glacier Train ... visit the ice sculpture caves ... and the cable car to the top gives amazing views.

If you want to have a go at paragliding there are plenty of places close by to have a go!

In France, motorway signs are blue, main non motorway routes are signed in green. In Switzerland it is the other way round, and easy to find yourself heading for the toll roads!!
