Looking for suggestions for fully featured caravan sites which are near towns for next summer. We, (and our teenagers!), really enjoyed staying in Delftse Hout near Delft in the Netherlands. Plenty to do onsite and also being able to cycle in to the old town for markets/restaurants/shops.

Not fussed which country, but within a day's towing from Calais, so southern France, Italy etc. are too far.

Thanks.

When you say 'fully featured' what exactly is important to you? Some sites are in a great situation, but have only a 'normal' pool (no slides, no flumes, no jacuzzi) and others may have no children's club. Everyone's definition of their perfect site is different, so what is it you're looking for on site?

Maybe "fully featured" was misleading. Maybe "with interesting features" is more accurate. Each site has its own merits. We might be happy with no pool if there's table tennis, a tennis court, petanque etc. to keep us interested. We want more than just a Camping Municipale, but how much more is hard to quantify. Wifi is a must though for teenagers!

We have stayed on excellent sites in the middle of nowhere before, Le Pin Parasol being one. I was just looking for ideas from others who have enjoyed sites near to towns/cities.

Thanks.

Like Val, I too didn't know what you meant by a "fully featured site", but a campsite within the heart of a town is Camping Cite d'Aleth at St Malo.

It's not a lavishly equipped site but it has a wonderful position, within walking distance of the old walled city, for day visits both ways along the coast, and inland to Dinan. But I don't say I would spend a full fortnight's holiday there- there are so many other attractive places to visit, and to get there I would certainly take a ferry from Portsmouth or Poole, not one from Dover.

Try somewhere in the Loire. There's a number of good sites close to Saumur, which is an interesting town. There's also lots of other attractions in that area.

Have a look at Camping La Citadelle on the outskirts of Loches in the Loire. 10 minute walk to town along a riverside path, small pool, some entertainment in main season, bar, food takeaway, kids club in season
Also has wifi, and within easy driving distance of many of the chateaux in that area.

Have a look at
Monrichard

Has great facilities to keep children amused and entertained. A walk over the brodge into the ancient town with its shops, alongside a large supermarket. In various directions it is about 10-15 miles from
Loches, Montresor,Chinon and Chenonceux.

Been several times and never found it noisy, nor a cleanliness problem but we don't go in main season so may be different then
