Turning up & going is usually much dearer than booking even a day ahead. DFDS have these routes fairly well covered, go on their website & click destinations then Scandinavia. There is a very short crossing above Copenhagen to Sweden that might just be turn up & go though & probably cheaper than bridge toll.
If you don't know dates your best bet if you have internet access is to book online at least a day ahead or by phone even. They will speak English no probs.
You can drive from Germany via mainland Denmark to Sweden using toll bridges & not ferry if you want though.
Hi - we travelled from Kristiansand in Norway to Hirtshals in Denmark with Colorline last year. We actually booked from a public library in Mandal (lovely place) in Norway.
They have a very good website. The ferry took three and a half hours and cut out a lot of driving.
On the way to Scandinavia we went across 'The Bridge' (from TV prog)- great experience.
We found the cost of the ferries was about the same as the bridges.
