AARGH, choices, choices. I have done all the research and read the reviews and it comes down to either Camping Chateau des Marais, near Blois or Camping Domaine de la Breche near Saumur. I just can't split them. 16 nights in early July, in a tent. Maybe the choice should be based on location and sights nearby, rather than facilities. I want to decide soon, before I go back to work. HELP.

We went to La Breche a few years ago, at Whit. Was a decent site, Eurocamp so lots and lots of statics. Pool was nice and decent facilities, we were in a static so can't comment on loos etc. Nicely situated for places to visit locally etc.
Haven't been to your other site but stayed at La Grand Tortue not far away some years ago, which was also well situated. You can't really go wrong with either location if you've not been before, plenty to do in both areas. Could you do 8 nights at each?

For us the decision is always down to location, and we simply use the campsite as a base.

This last couple of years we have been to the same 3 Star campsite down near Frejus, as it makes a fantastic base for exploring the Cote d Azur.

We plan to return again this year, and at 13€ inc Electric per night, for early July the campsite provides all the essentials that we require, nice swimming pool, spotless abloutions and Frites! available almost every evening.

Nice tent you have there by the way.

We have friends who return to the Saumur year after year (gite rather than camping) and they rave about the things to do and see, particularly vineyards.

We've been to Domains de la breche twice in a caravan. The camping area felt quite separate from the statics. The facilities were spotless and plentiful. We were there late June/early July and it was reasonably quiet. There is a bar and takeaway on site which was fine, and a restaurant just outside the gates. We weren't impressed with the restaurant but it had just opened, so might have improved. We had a lovely holiday there, staff are excellent and it's an easy drive to Saumur. We had a luxury pitch that came with a fridge, chairs and loungers and a barbecue table.

I've been to Chateau des Marais but not the other site. CDM is a great site for young families, and is very close to the Chateau at Chambord. It's just off the main road (non-motorway) from Blois to Orleans, so it's quite easy to travel in either direction, if sightseeing is what you're after.

There are quite a few statics, and pitches tend to be at the ends of rows of chalets, although there are some areas just for tents.

There's a bar and restaurant, what you'd expect from a mid-size campsite really!

Enjoy your holiday, wherever you decide to go!

Well eventually I made the decision. The Domaine de la Breche site near Saumur. Nothing in particular swung it, but therafter it was easy. The ferry, the accomodation on the way down, the flight home for the family from Gatwick, (they hate the return leg).
I had to alter my outward journey by an extra day due to the overnight sailing having no free cabins left. All that remains now is to get actowbar fitted to the Volvo and we are good to go.

Thanks for the final tips.
Look forward to seeing you in Frejus one day Francais and we can compare tents side by side.

Just looked up where you live Rhj296, think you might be one of the most Northerly posters on here! That's one hell of a drive up from Dover!

You could be right Essexexmum, however with a fair wind and good driving conditions I have made it home from the Channel Tunnel in 1 go. It was a long haul and I had lots of stops..
I will see how it goes this year. If I drop the family off at Gatwick, after the overnight ferru then I can head off north. The further north I go the closer to a range of friends houses I get. They stay conveniently close to the M74 and A9.
