I said earlier that I don't book in June, and that's true - but we have learned by experience that certain individual sites can be full and turning people away then.
There are some sites in Provence giving ACSI discounts in June that are like that. Camping Ventoux at Mazan is one such - Dutch owned, Dutch speaking, and full of Dutch pensioners clutching their discount cards. It was full in September too.
We found September a lot worse than June this year. No room at the inn on several sites we had picked out and nothing at all available in 3 towns we wanted to stay in in early September. We just moved on but were very surprised at this, to say the least.
Yes, it's location , location isn't it. Much of France is empty in June and September. But in the popular parts of southern France where Dutch pensioners go they are there in numbers - on the discount sites.
Les Rives de L'Aygues near Nyons - not a particularly special site I thought - but was all but totally full in June 2014, while other non discount sites nearby had empty spaces . The ACSI effect?

Was that on ACSI discount sites?
We learned to avoid them in popular parts of southern France but found plenty of space at sites outside that scheme.
Mix of Municipal and ACSI sites. We travelled out on 31 August and arrived back here on 21st
At Du Vivier aux Carpes (ACSI) in Seraucourt-le-Grand near Quimper we got the last pitch at about 4.30pm in the afternoon
Camping Navarre in Langres (Municipal) was full at 4.30pm.
In Annecy Au Coeur du Lac (ACSI) was full but other ACSI sites further out had plenty of space. This is not unusual unless you get there very early in the afternoon.
At Bedoin in Provence both Camping La Garenne (not ACSI) and the Municipal were full and we got the last space in the Aire. There were other sites nearby but we particularly wanted to be withing walking distance of the town.
At Serignan Plage on the coast near Beziers all of the campsites were full but further down the coast there were spaces.
I can't remember the other place as we'd been recommended it and it looking interesting (thought I'd written it down for future reference but alas not) but this too was on the south west coast.
Apart from the places we really wanted to stop at it wasn't a problem as we just used another site or travelled a bit further. We were just very surprised as were the managers at some of the sites we called in at.
As just one guide,CampingFrance has 9358 sites and its June then NO.
But as others have said its possibly not that simple and depends on where you want to be and if you will be using Camping Cheques or ACSI.
We stayed at Bella Italia on Lake Garda for many years and even with 400 pitches we were turned away twice due to the large numbers of Camping Cheque users filling the site.
Our experience in France has been that sites are not busy but the med maybe different as others are saying.
