Hi we are thinking of heading to the Italian lakes this summer, driving down from Rotterdam. Can anyone recomend a good campsite for us with our caravan. We are a family of four( two older teenagers) we want to visit Milan by train for the day, so this may determine which lake? They all look beautiful so the right campsite may also determine which one to head for. Thanks

Hi LornaM,
First there have been other posts on this subject, one very recently,so a search may bring up some info.I think the thread is currently on the second page of this section.
Usually you can get a lot of helpful info but I think that posters will need a bot more info from you to be able to help out.
When exactly are you travelling?
How long is your holiday?
Route preference/toll or no toll?
Caravan or motorhome?
Large busy site, some are huge, or smaller?
Take a look at this thread,it may help, please put more info on here so others can help and have a great time!

Hi Lorna,
This was what I posted in the other thread;
Hi,
We have been going to Italy for a few years and have used three different sites on three lakes.
We have stayed at Camping Bella Italia most,10 times, last being 2015.That probably shows that we like it........a lot and we may be back later this year.It is a big and very busy site and may not be to all tastes but it has a lot going for it in regard to its position, right on the lake and walking distance into town, and the surrounding area with Verona 20 mins away and Venice app 90.
We have stayed at Valle Romantica and it is totally different being quite small but we really enjoyed it and have stayed there three times.
The last site is actually on a small lake which is a nature reserve near to Lake Como,Camping Rannochio. Again it is on the smaller side but its location is idyllic and Como is beautiful.
With children it will depend on if you want big and busy with lots of facilities, like Bella, or smaller but with a pool in a nice location.
One key thing will be the time you are going,as it will probably be hectic everywhere, but Bella Italia is full in June and we loved it.
Have a look at their websites as well as at that time of year prices will be quite high and sites more geared to tents may be better value.

Hi Allan
We have a caravan and we are going end of July and pretty much know our route down from Rotterdam and back up to Amsterdam. We are going to travel around for 3 weeks but want to spend about 4/5 days in Italy. We like busy campsites, pools etc...more for our girls than us and Bella Italia sounds good. We have never bothered booking in past travels around France and Spain but Ive noticed that some in Italy want a two week stay and booked in advance. Any advice on this please? Thanks

Hi Lorrna, At that time of year you would probably not be able to book for less than a week and would possibly have to arrive on a set day. For such a short time it's a long way to go, and quite costly, but that depends on your route. If via Switzerland I would go for Maggiore or Como area or if to the East then Garda. From the West you have to get around Milan to get to Garda and that will add to the stress factor,as well as costs.
Bella Italia can be full in May/June but does not feel overcrowded.
If you still intend to go I would have a few sites in mind and call or e-mail them whilst en route to see if they have spaces. At Bella it is a constant stream of arrivals and departures when we are there but that may not be the case in high season.

Why go to Garda? We stayed at Camping con a d'oro, lake maggiore this year thanks to good advice from someone on here. Right on the lake beach, beautiful Italy, fabulous weather, amazing place and just a short drive from Stresa. Wonderful place and great campsite
