I'm thinking about a trip to Cologne in mid-April. There are a couple of sites beside the Rhine - Camping Berger and Campingplatz der Stadt Koln. (I've stayed in the second one many years ago, but recent reviews are not great).

Anyone got recent experience of either site??

We stayed on the latter in August 2014. It was busy, fairly crowded, but quieter than we had expected given the location.

EHUs were crowded, you might need a long cable.

I think the facilities were up some stairs, but were fine.

Good for getting into town. We stayed a few nights.

We stayed on Berger way back in 1999, it was chaotic in August, vans packed in everywhere. Facilities were good then, no idea about now. We only stayed one night as we were on our way back to the ferry.

Thanks Jennifer. That's how I remember the site and it wasn't too busy in July - albeit many years ago.

We're going in mid-April after the Easter break,so hopefully it won't be too busy then. Nice thing about retirement - you're free to go when you want.

Please let us know how you get on as we would like to visit Cologne but were put off by the site reviews.

We stayed at the campingplatz in September last year. It was fairly full but we managed to get a place and had 2 nights there. Easy walk along the river into town or tram stop just outside of site. Would certainly go again.
