Well I don't want to teach my granny etc etc... But I recommend, if you have the time, you drive down to Switzerland, you don't have to go through Germany you can go through France, stay a night or 2 in interlaken take in neiderhorn, shilthorn, take the train up to the jungfraujoch see the eiger. There's a great campsite in unterseen called jungfrau camping. Then drive your van over the grimsel pass to the area around the simplon pass. Wild camp there for a night or 2 (plenty do it, imagine having your breakfast up there) then head down into Italy via domodossola, then head to lake como, there are plenty of campsites in the north western corner of lake como (sorico for example) or lake maggiore, cannero riviera (this can be done in a day from interlaken) then if you have more time head to Austrian Tyrol, landek for example, again easily reached in a day from como. From Austria you can then head back through bavaria, but if you have even more time it's not far to Slovenia or Croatia. Once you get to Switzerland you have "broken the back of the driving and everything is quite close. Even the riviera coast of Italy can be reached in an afternoon from interlaken.
