Hi all, my first post. Am taking the camper to Italy via Calais over Easter and wondered if you could recommend a couple of good stopovers along the way? Thinking of taking the slower Belgium Luxembourg route, but have been and will be happy to take the faster French tolls route. Have done it previously with one stop (wild camp in a forest, I don't know where!), but thinking of two this time to do it more leisurely/legally with more facilities (shower and loo!).

From Calais to Luxembourg on day one, and then Lucerne on the second night. They are each about 250 miles apart. Then through the St Gotthard tunnel on day 3. You might want to go further or less each day, I don't know your style of travelling, but have a safe journey.

How about this. Take the French roads down to besancon then head east into Switzerland via Neufchâtel. Head to interlaken and stop there after that head to kandersteg where you can catch a really cool underground train (that you can drive vehicles on to) to goppenstien. Then drive over the Simplon pass to Italy entering by domodossola. There are plenty of places to camp by Simplon which are carparks with wash facilities so you may want to bypass the interlaken stop and camp up there. I took the kandersteg to goppenstien train once on a work trip to get from Basel to Milan. Cut a massive corner off and avoided the Dutch bank holiday delays at the gothard tunnel. I used to have an excellent job ha ha.

Enjoy your trip!

When we went to Garda a couple of years ago towing a caravan we had first night in Montmedy municipal, then through bottom end of Luxembourg for a cheap fill up. Onward past Stuttgart to Illertissen for another stop, then over the Fern and Brenner into Italy. Good easy run.

Kockelscheuer at Luxembourg and TCS Luzern- Horw at Lake Lucerne - but there are others at each locality.
