Sorry can't help with overnight stops in the Bordeaux area - it's about thirty five years since we were there!

However, the above route is a good one - nice scenery, straightforward, and can be done free of tolls or you can hop on and off the autoroute as you wish.

If anyone would have told me to go that route Val I would never have believed them, but having looked at Google maps you are right as usual.
